Two sides who are scrapping it out in the play-off battle, Blackburn will welcome Sheffield United to Ewood Park on Saturday lunchtime.
Starting with the hosts, while Blackburn might still open this weekend’s fixtures sat in the play-off places, it is no secret that the Rovers are seeking some crucial stability. Although John Eustace’s men might have marked their return from October’s international break with a gritty 1-0 win against Swansea, that is the only Championship victory that they have collected from any of their previous five appearances. Last seen putting in another worrying performance as they suffered a 1-0 defeat at the hands of Watford, the former Birmingham boss will have a headache over his side’s struggles in the final third. Opening October with a nightmare 3-0 drumming against Coventry, Saturday’s hosts have also drawn back-to-back Championship blanks. Likewise, it should also be highlighted, Blackburn have registered just a pair of goals in their last five outings. However, despite those extended issues, Eustace’s side have not conceded a single goal at Ewood Park since the end of August.
As for the visitors, managing to make a much-welcomed return to winning ways last week as they clinched a 2-0 victory against Stoke, Sheffield United will be desperate to use that performance as a platform to build on. Marking their return from October’s international break with consecutive defeats against Leeds and Middlesbrough, Chris Wilder’s side find themselves in a similar position to Saturday’s opponents. However, still pencilled in as a leading contender in this season’s play-off chase, the Blades have largely gained a reputation for their rugged success at the back. Getting October underway with a 2-0 win against fellow Championship returners Luton, Wilder’s camp have recorded a clean sheet in seven of their previous nine appearances. However, facing what is a real play-off six-pointer this weekend, it should be noted that Sheffield United have failed to find the net in any of their last three Championship showdowns away from Bramall Lane.
