Tottenham eye January move for midfielder
Tottenham Hotspur came from behind to earn a convincing 4-1 victory over Aston Villa on Sunday afternoon.
Morgan Rogers had put the visitors ahead in North London, before Brennan Johnson levelled things up after the break.
Dominic Solanke then netted a quick fire brace to put Spurs comfortably in front, before James Maddison rounded off the victory with a superb free-kick late on.
The win moves Ange Postecoglou’s side up to seventh in the Premier League table, while Villa sit a place above them in sixth.
Now, it has emerged that Postecoglou and those in charge of the club are putting plans in place for the January transfer window.
As per Football Insider, the North London outfit are looking to sign a central midfielder when the window reopens in the new year.
Postecoglou has experimented with Maddison and Dejan Kulusevski operating centrally of late, with the likes of Yves Bissouma behind them.
Kulusevski has been used in midfield at times this season
Whilst that has been largely successful, the report suggests that those in charge of the club believe that they can upgrade the squad in that position.
AC Milan’s Tijjani Reijnders has been linked with a move to the Lilywhites, but the report suggests that a mid-season move is very unlikely for the Dutchman.
The 26-year-old has established himself as one of the most reliable and versatile central midfielders in Serie A over the past year or so, making more than 60 appearances for Milan across all competitions.
While Postecoglou has Bissoumaa, Pape Matar Sarr and Rodrigo Bentancur as options at the base of his midfield, the report claims that youngsters Archie Gray and Lucas Bergvall are currently deemed to be too inexperienced to start in Premier League games.
Spurs are therefore on the hunt for midfield reinforcements, following the departure of Piere-Emile Hojbjerg over the summer.
