Olave has already suffered 2 concussions this season. The first was in Week 6 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, then he suffered another one against the Carolina Panthers in Week 9.
This news does not come as a shock as Saints interim head coach Darren Rizzi said in Friday’s post practice press conference that placing Olave on IR. “Was not off the table”
Rizzi said that Olave has been going through the process of the concussion protocol, meeting with the team’s medical staff and specialists to make sure he makes the best decisions moving forward. “We’re more concerned about Chris Olave, the person and making sure everything is okay.”
The 24-year-old has now suffered five concussions since 2020. The first was while he was at Ohio State. He has sustained four since being drafted by the Saints in 2022.
Once on IR, Olave will miss at least the next four games and possibly more as he continues to evaluate what is best for him in his football and personal future.
