CBS is going on The Road with country music star Blake Shelton and Yellowstone creator Taylor Sheridan.

Shelton and Sheridan will executive produce a singing competition titled The Road for the network, which plans to debut the show in fall 2025. The series will be CBS’ first talent competition of any kind since the short-lived Come Dance With Me in 2022, and its first music-based series since Rock Star back in the mid-2000s.

CBS’ announcement comes a day after Yellowstone returned to its corporate sibling Paramount Network for the long-awaited second half of its fifth season.

The Road will feature singers joining a to-be-announced music star on tour, serving as the headliner’s opening act. They’ll compete to win over local fanbases and secure a spot in the next city on the tour.

Yellowstone producers MTV Entertainment Studios and 101 Studios will produce the series with Shelton and Lee Metzger’s Lucky Horseshoe Productions. Sheridan and 101 Studios’ David Glasser executive produce with Shelton and Metzger.

“I’m a big fan of Taylor’s incredible work, and I’m excited to team with him and my long-time collaborator, Lee, on The Road,” Shelton said in a statement. “I know a thing or two about singing competitions and what it’s like to chase a music dream and live life on tour. I’m looking forward to discovering new talent and giving them this platform.”

Added Sheridan, “There is a revolution taking place in country music. Building a platform with Blake for the next leaders of that revolution is an incredibly exciting venture. No more shiny floors and studio audiences. This is where the rubber meets the road — literally. Get in the van, go to the next town and win the crowd. Do it enough, and you become the next leader. Simple as that.”

Shelton was a mainstay on NBC’s singing competition, The Voice, for 23 seasons, departing the show after the spring 2023 edition. He and Metzger also executive produced USA Network’s unscripted show Barmageddon.

In addition to the expansive Yellowstone franchise and Paramount+ shows Tulsa King, Mayor of Kingstown, Lioness and Landman, Sheridan also executive produces CMT’s competition show The Last Cowboy and was an EP of the Paramount+ docuseries Willie Nelson & Family.
