Sean McVay critical of offensive line after embarrassing loss to Dolphins
The Los Angeles Rams are reflecting on what went wrong after losing to the Miami Dolphins on Monday night. Coming off of three straight wins, the offensive performance wasnât up to the task of scoring points against the Dolphins.
They failed to score a single touchdown and were held to field goals in the 23-15 loss. The Dolphins’ defensive front was able to get pressure and make life miserable for Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford for the entire night.
The Rams made notable changes to the offensive line with both Jonah Jackson and Steve Avila returning from injuries that kept them sidelined since the beginning of the season. Rookie center Beaux Limmer whoâd played really well during the win streak was replaced by Jackson.
The veteran who the Rams signed to a three-year $51 million deal in the offseason certainly has the pedigree to start over the sixth-round rookie but it may have cost them as he struggled in protection and made several poor snaps, one of which couldnât be handled by Stafford from the pistol and led to a large loss
After the game, head coach Sean McVay was careful with his words but expressed some frustration with the offensive line as a whole. He said:Â “It didn’t seem very, it seemed like, you know, I want to be able to look at the tape. But there were many things that were not in alignment with what we’re looking for. Thatâs why you hear us talk about the importance of continuity. Got a lot of respect for that defense, they did a nice job, but there (were) too many things that just seemed like we were off and never gave ourselves a chance, and itâs not exclusively on the line.â
Itâs reasonable to wonder if the Rams regret making the line changes that ultimately hampered their performance and if they make any adjustments moving forward.
