The Fourth Bridget Jones Movie Coming Soon: Here’s Everything We Know

Ever since the lovable (and perfectly normal-size) Bridget Jones hit the silver screen, fans have been clamoring to see the further adventures of the plucky heroine, played by Renée Zellweger.

Following the success of 2001’s Bridget Jones’s Diary (which, fun fact, is based on Pride & Prejudice), Zellweger starred in two sequels, Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason (2004) and Bridget Jones’s Baby (2016).

Now a fourth movie is on its way. Here’s everything to know.

We have a trailer!Perfectly madcap, with lots of British-isms and girl power moments.

The trailer also reveals that this will be the last chapter in the Jones saga. Say it ain’t so!

What’s it about? On April 9, 2024, The Hollywood Reporter revealed that the film is titled Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy, and confirmed that the story will follow author Helen Fielding’s novel series, which finds Bridget joining Tinder after the death of her husband. Per the outlet, the film will also include “hot sex with a 30-year-old man,” so there’s that!

Which actors are coming back?Zellweger has been confirmed to return, as has Hugh Grant. Both Firth and Hugh Grant battled for Jones’s affections in the first two films, though Grant’s character was written off (presumed dead, later found alive, offscreen) and replaced by another man, played by Patrick Dempsey, in the third. From the trailer, it looks like Firth will be there for wordless flashbacks.

Emma Thompson, who appeared in the third film as Dr. Rawlings, is also slated to return.

It’s actually pretty notable that Zellweger has signed on. Not that anyone else could play the titular character, but the two-time Oscar winner is super choosy about her projects. That said, she’s always been up-front about her desire to reprise the role.

In 2020 she told Vanity Fair, when asked whether there would be another installment of the hit franchise, “It would be fun, yeah. I know people are coy. I’m not. I promise I’m not. I just don’t know.”

“I mean, that’s a Helen [Fielding] question, but I hope she would want to,” she continued. “I’m always the last to know. They’re already building sets, and they call me and say, ‘What do you think?’ It’s fun. It’s so much fun. Man, I’d love the experience of revisiting her. I love her. I just think she’s so much fun. She’s the best. Sure, if I got invited to do that, that sounds like fun.”

Who’s joining the cast?Chiwetel Ejiofor and Leo Woodall are the new hotties. Can’t go wrong there!

When will the Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy be released? As the trailer notes, the movie will be released on February 13—not Valentine’s day but Galentine’s day.
