Man United make move for one of Europe’s most prolific strikers

Ruben Amorim will take charge of Manchester United for the first time when they visit Ipswich Town later this month.

The 39-year-old arrived in England on Monday to take charge of the Red Devils, succeeding Ruud van Nistelrooy who had acted as interim head coach following the sacking of Erik ten Hag last month.

Amorim arrives in Manchester as one of Europe’s most highly-rated managers, and it now appears that United are interested in signing one of Europe’s most highly-rated players.

As per Italian outlet TuttoSport via GiveMeSport, the Red Devils have made an approach about the possibility of signing Lille forward Jonathan David.

The Canada international is in the final year of his current contract at the French side and is therefore set to be available as a free agent next summer.

David, 24, could also sign a pre-contract with any club outside of France in January, and the report suggests that Man United are hoping to persuade the player to do exactly that.

David is set to leave Lille at the end of the current campaign

Since joining Lille from Belgian side Gent four years ago, David has scored an impressive 97 times in 202 games across all competitions.

He has established himself as one of the most prolific goal scorers in the top European leagues, and the report claims that he has informed his current side that he has no intention of signing a new deal with the club.

This season the Canadian striker has scored 13 goals in 19 games, including four in his last three Champions League matches.

United’s interest in David comes despite the Red Devils having spent a combined fee of more than £100 million on Rasmussen Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee over the past couple of years.

The duo have largely failed to live up to expectations at Old Trafford so far, and it appears that those in charge of United’s recruitment are therefore on the lookout for further reinforcements following the appointment of Amorim.
