Georgia Bulldogs head coach Kirby Smart expressed his support for the SEC to the CFP Committee following their hard-fought 31-17 victory over the Tennessee Volunteers.

“I would welcome anybody in [the College Football Playoff] committee to come down to this league and play in this environment. It’s a tough place to play,” said Smart post-game.

The Bulldogs improved to 8-2 and moved into third place in the SEC, while the Volunteers dropped to 8-2, settling in fourth.

Following the gritty win, which saw both teams tied at 17-17 entering halftime, Smart subtly took a jab at the selection committee, expressing uncertainty about what message the victory sent.

“I don’t know because I don’t know what they look for,” Smart said. “I really don’t know what they look for anymore.

Currently, the top six teams in the SEC each have no more than two losses, highlighting the competitiveness of the conference.

In the latest CFP bracket, Georgia failed to secure a spot, but that is likely to change after tonight’s win, especially considering Tennessee was seeded at No. 8.

Georgia will likely need to win its next two games to secure a guaranteed spot in the playoffs, starting next Saturday against the Massachusetts Minutemen.
