College football rankings: Updated NCAA Top 25 polls after Oregon’s scare & Georgia’s statement win in Week 12
As the stakes get higher, the college football season gets more entertaining. Week 12 was no exception.
After things were relatively tame during the early afternoon slate, things ramped up in the evening when No. 1 Oregon survived a scare from unranked Wisconsin. The Ducks escaped Madison, Wis. with a 16-13 win to remain perfect at 11-0.
Hours later, No. 6 BYU wasn’t as fortunate. The Cougars’ first loss came from unranked Kansas, a team much better than its record may suggest. With BYU falling to 9-1, No. 1 Oregon (11-0), No. 5 Indiana (10-0) and No. 24 Army (9-0) are the last three undefeated teams in FBS.
While the Hoosiers were idle, No. 2 Ohio State, No. 3 Texas and No. 4 Penn State all took care of business, making it a clean week for the top 5. No. 12 Georgia made a statement with a home win over No. 7 Tennessee and No. 21 South Carolina earned a thrilling win over No. 24 Missouri in the week’s only other ranked matchup.
As for other upsets, No. 16 Kansas State, No. 18 Washington State, No. 19 Louisville and No. 22 LSU fell to unranked opponents. There will almost certainly be a shakeup in the second half of the top 25, with No. 17 Colorado looking to leap after a 25-point win over Utah.
With the week’s results in mind, here is how the Coaches and AP Top 25 polls look headed into Week 13 of the college football season.
