A big development recently occurred on the college football recruiting trail when Bryce Underwood flipped his commitment. The 5-star quarterback (who is the No. 1 player in the 2025 class, per the 247Sports Composite rankings) announced last Thursday that he would be enrolling at Michigan, rather than LSU.

More substantial news could be coming in the near future. College football’s early signing period has been bumped up to early December and will be occurring from Dec. 4-6 this year, meaning many recruits will take the opportunity to sign their national letters of intent.

Sure, some will wait until the traditional national signing day on Feb. 5. But a big flurry of decisions and moves will come next week.

Here’s everything you need to know heading into the early signing period for the 2025 class.

Could More Big Flips Be in the Works for Michigan?2 of 4

Underwood may not be the final top-ranked 2025 recruit to flip to Michigan. There’s plenty of time left for the Wolverines to pursue other blue-chip players who previously committed elsewhere and potentially get them to change their minds.

According to ESPN’s Eli Lederman, 5-star defensive lineman Isaiah Gibson could be “difficult to flip,” due to his long-standing commitment to Georgia. However, that may not stop Michigan from trying, as it offered the Warner Robins, Ga., native last Friday.

Lederman also noted that the Wolverines are expected to pursue 5-star offensive tackle Ty Haywood (an Alabama commit) and 4-star wide receiver Derek Meadows (an LSU commit).

So Michigan head coach Sherrone Moore is clearly still hard at work trying to further bolster his program’s 2025 recruiting class. And perhaps he’ll be successful in getting more top players to flip in the final days leading up to the early signing period.

Whatever happens, it should be interesting to see what the Wolverines’ recruiting class looks like when all is said and done.

Georgia Looking to Land 5-star DT Terry3 of 4

The top recruit in the 2025 class currently not committed to a school is 5-star defensive tackle Justus Terry, who is ranked No. 9 by 247Sports Composite. The Manchester, Ga., native has been committed to both Georgia and USC at times this year, but his recruitment has been reopened since June 19.

Terry could still end up with the Bulldogs, though. In fact, the 247Sports Crystal Ball has Georgia as the heavy favorite to land his commitment. But Terry has been taking other visits, going to Texas in October and to Auburn this past weekend.

Adam Gorney of Rivals.com recently reported that the feeling is that Terry is down to Georgia and Alabama. But Gorney also noted that the Bulldogs “still feel very comfortable in this recruitment.”

So it seems like there’s a high likelihood that Terry will re-commit to Georgia. But anything can happen at the last minute in the world of college football recruiting.

Colorado Making Late Pushes for Top Recruits4 of 4

Like Michigan, Colorado is making a strong push late in the 2025 recruiting cycle. Last week, 4-star quarterback Julian Lewis committed to the Buffaloes, announcing his decision after previously de-committing from USC.

More top recruits could soon be joining Lewis in Colorado’s upcoming recruiting class. Lederman reported that the Buffaloes are targeting 4-star linebacker Nathaniel Owusu-Boateng (not currently committed to any school) and 5-star offensive lineman Michael Carroll (an Alabama commit).

London Merritt, a 4-star edge rusher who de-committed from Ohio State earlier this week and recently visited Colorado, could end up joining the Buffaloes as well. The program is also in the mix for 4-star offensive tackle Carde Smith, according to Lederman.

None of this should be surprising, as Colorado head coach Deion Sanders has often had success on the recruiting trail. The Buffaloes’ 2025 class should be quite strong by the time the early signing period is over.
