Lakers predicted to land $13 million star by trading away former 76ers center
With trading season in full effect, expect current and former Philadelphia 76ers to be involved in trade rumors in the coming months.
Weâve already seen Sixers alumni like Jimmy Butler apparently want a new home, as ESPNâs Shams Charania reported. These trades could also impact the Sixersâ chances of signing an impact player on the buyout market, like DâAngelo Russell.
One proposed trade by Bleacher Report involves a rather obscure Sixers alum, Christian Wood, who played for the team during the 2016 season.
The article proposed the following trade between Woodâs current team, the Los Angeles Lakers, and the Utah Jazz.
Lakers receive: Walker Kessler
Jazz receive: Wood, protections removed from the first-round pick the Lakers owe them in 2027, and the Lakers first-rounder in 2029.
The article elaborated that the Jazz would only trade for Wood to match the salaries for Kessler, after which they would waive him.
This trade could open the door for a reunionWood hasnât played this season because of surgery on his left knee. On paper, he is an intriguing addition because he is a floor-spacer with some size. Heâs also not a bad rebounder even though heâs not the most physically intimidating big man.
The Sixers havenât had a player like that as a backup for Joel Embiid. They also are in dire need of shooting overall.
The one red flag with Wood is that the teams heâs played for have been more than happy to let him move on to somewhere else. The Lakers havenât done so with him, but he isnât coming off the best season with them.
He could be a diamond in the rough for the Sixers, which theyâve had in the past. Kelly Oubre Jr. was that for the Sixers last season, so as long as it didnât cost them anything, why not roll that dice bringing Wood back?
