Amorim upset United did not win

Ruben Amorim is still angry with how things are panning out, despite a spirited 2-2 draw at Premier League leaders Liverpool.
Following a performance that every fan can be proud of, the head coach admits he is still frustrated by the losses in recent weeks and urged his side to show consistency in the matches ahead, displaying the same passion and endeavour on show at Anfield.
During his interviews with the official broadcasters afterwards, he also spoke about Diogo Dalot’s contribution, the late chance to win it for Harry Maguire and a desire to ensure maximum effort is always the minimum requirement…

Amorim: Our fight was keyRuben Amorim is pleased with the way United battled at Liverpool, but insists his team have to maintain that desire…
A GOOD DAY
“I think we faced this game, second half and first half, with a different mentality. That is the difference. We can talk about the system, the technical [side], we are short, we are tall but the mentality sometimes is everything. And you can feel it. At the end of the game, I looked at the pitch and the guys were really tired and, sometimes, I have to explain to my players that we have to finish games like that. So I think it was a good day in that aspect. I think we could have won.”
EXERTING CONTROL AT ANFIELD
“I think we controlled the game very well. Every time Liverpool had a chance, we controlled. We had the ball for some moments and that makes the difference. You can see during the game it was not like we were suffering all the time because we control the ball, sometimes winning fouls, controlling the transitions. So I think it was a good game.”
WE MUST BE CONSISTENT
“When we are focused, when we fight for the ball, when we suffer, when we finish the game we are really, really tired. I think we can be a good team. If you don’t do that all the time, we are going to lose games like in the last weeks. We have to start, some day, to be consistent. Not in the way we play but the way we face the competition. So let’s start today.”
DIOGO’S DISPLAY
“Like I’ve said, the players have the qualities and you have to do it. Like you should every game. So Dalot is really fast, he is really smart. He understands the game so you can use him.”
MAGUIRE’S CHANCE
“He will do that [focus on his overall display]. He will focus because, for me, missing chances or playing bad with the ball, for me, is not the big issue. For me, the big issue is that Harry gives everything on the pitch and that is the most important thing.”
IN THIS TOGETHER
“Iām from a different culture, we are losing so many games and, in the end, you have the supporters clapping and pushing for us. Itās a special place and theyāre special fans. So we have to give everything. We have to face every game in this way. I don’t want to say that it was the training that made us perform well. I will say it again, itās the way we face the game, itās the way we are competitive, not just training. Of course, we are going to improve with training but I donāt want to use that, itās the way we face the game and, for that, you donāt need training.”
A STEP FORWARD?
“We will see. I donāt like to say that today is a step forward. I donāt know, I will do my job and, tomorrow, I will do the same things. We need to show the same mentality tomorrow in training. If we relax tomorrow, the same thing will happen again. It’s also my job, so I guarantee you Iām really trying on the basics. So we have to move on and congratulations to the lads for the performance but not for the result.”
I’M STILL ANGRY
“I think we should get mad and disappointed more than Newcastle and Nottingham Forest. Today, we need to be really disappointed. I have to calm down and say the right things. We’re in a difficult moment but it’s hard to not get really mad. Iām happy for the performance. Iām not happy for the result but Iām really mad because of the other games. Sometimes, it’s like that, everybody is angry with my players and I have to do the opposite. Today, everyone will say they did everything right, and I am allowed to be upset.”
