Dana White books fight with 150lb weight difference as heavyweights set for Madison Square Garden

Dana White is bringing boxing back to the Theater at Madison Square Garden, and one fight in particular is really standing out to viewers.

The UFC boss will head to Madison Square Garden on March 16 as his Irish prospect Callum Walsh, who is promoted by Tom Loeffler and 360 Boxing faces off with Scot Dean Sutherland. He plans to stack the card with Irish talent, with a huge crowd expected to travel for the show.

One fighter who tends to catch the eye of fans is heavyweight Thomas Carty, who has landed nine explosive knockouts in his ten professional fights. But he takes on a whole new challenge as he heads to American for the first time.

Who is Dana White? All you need to know about the CEO and President of the UFCDana White books heavyweight clash with 150lb weight differenceWhen Dana White travelled to Dublin for Callum Walsh’s homecoming back in September, he was surprised to see the massive support for Dubliner Thomas Carty. The hard-hitting Celtic champion immediately caught his attention, and he vowed to bring him to America for Paddy’s day.

White has stayed true to that promise, but is placing him against a behemoth in the 6’3″ knockout artist Dajuan Calloway. What stands out the most about Calloway aside from his eight KOs is his tremendous weight, tipping the scales for his last three fights at more than 400lb.

Carty, a more svelt figure, is one inch taller but at his heaviest has only scaled 259lb. His most recent outing saw him come in at 253lb, and he has been as light as 243lb at one point in his career, meaning a disparity of over 160lb in from Calloway’s high of 406lb.

Calloway’s career-lowest weight was still a whopping 362lb, which was almost three years ago. Even if he managed to make that weight again and Carty came in a career-heaviest, there would still be over 100lb between the two, and that gap is likely to be closer to 150lb.

Bloody Elbow has confirmed the bout with sources after it was leaked on BoxRec today, and an announcement is expected imminently. Carty has been in camp for weeks already, meaning he will be months deep into training when the next date comes.

Thomas Carty wants Johnny Fisher fight after US debutCarty is one of the most highly-touted prospects in the UK and Ireland, sharing the ring in sparring with world champions such as Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua. He is managed by Dillian Whyte’s stable, and is keen to get a big name after making a statement in New York.

He has previously fought for Eddie Hearn under the Matchroom Boxing banner, and wants to return to that moniker against the massive ticket-selling Johnny Fisher. The ‘Romford Bull’ recently eeked out a wildly controversial decision win over Dave Allen, and Carty wants to be next in line.

“I’m really pushing the boat out on my own career and that fight is really something I think we can get made and the way they are making fights in Saudi Arabia at the moment, me and Johnny Fisher is a massive fight.”
