Golden State Warriors starters Stephen Curry (knee) and Draymond Green (back) will sit out Friday’s road game against the Indiana Pacers, head coach Steve Kerr told reporters on Friday.

Kerr described Green’s back as “tight and bothersome,” while noting Curry “still has some fluid in his knee” (h/t The Athletic’s Anthony Slater.)

“Draymond’s back has been tight. Steph still has fluid in his knee.”

“When they’re injured, we have to be careful or they’re going to miss a month or two and there goes our season.”

Kerr added that he hoped to get back both players before Monday’s road game against the Toronto Raptors.

“Unfortunately, they’re just at the age, and at the stage of their careers, with so much wear and tear that, no matter how you slice it, they’re gonna miss some games,” Kerr said.

“When they’re injured, we have to be really careful. Otherwise, they’re gonna miss a month or two.”

Curry is leading the Warriors this season with 22.6 points per game on 44.6 percent shooting from the field and 44.1 percent from three.

Green is pacing the Golden State defense with 1.2 blocks per game while averaging 8.7 points.

The Warriors’ decision to acquire Dennis Schröder from the Brooklyn Nets becomes even more important in light of the injury news.

After losing Curry’s previous backup De’Anthony Melton to season-ending knee surgery, the Warriors decided to trade the remainder of Melton’s contract for Schröder once the former Nets guard became trade eligible in December. Schröder is now likely to see his playing time increase in Curry’s absence.

After winning 12 of their first 15 games to start the season, the Warriors slipped down the Western Conference standings amid a string of losses in November and December.

The team hit a low point when Curry was held to just two points, the fewest he had ever recorded in a game where he played at least 24 minutes, during a Dec. 19 loss to the Memphis Grizzlies.

The Warriors have climbed back into a playoff spot since then, but their hopes of remaining there hinge on Curry’s availability.

Curry has already missed seven games this season due to injury. He was sidelined for three contests with an ankle injury in October and has missed four other games due to knee pain and injury management.

The Warriors will hope to have him and Green back in the lineup as soon as possible as the franchise prepares to evaluate this roster ahead of the Feb. 6 trade deadline.
