The Dallas Cowboys are now in the market for a new head coach.
The parting of ways with Mike McCarthy on Monday immediately sprung up some out-of-the-box coaching rumors.
After all, this is the Cowboys and Jerry Jones, so who knows which direction the coaching search will actually go.
The reported range of candidates go from Kellen Moore to Deion Sanders and more names will likely emerge in the coming days.
There are now six head coach openings across the NFL, but the one key difference between the other five and the Cowboys is that the Raiders, Jets, Jaguars, Bears and Saints have been interviewing candidates for the last week.

The blockbuster report from the first 24 hours of the Cowboys coaching search was that Deion Sanders and the NFC East side have mutual interest.
NFL insider Jordan Schultz reported that “Jerry Jones has spoken with Colorado HC Deion Sanders about the team’s head coaching vacancy, and discussions are expected to continue regarding the possibility of him becoming the next head coach in Dallas.”
ESPN’s Adam Schefter mentioned on Monday Night Countdown that Kellen Moore and Jason Witten could be among the potential candidates (h/t Awful Announcing).
NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero reported that “different types of candidates” could be interviewed in the Cowboys search compared to the other vacancies across the NFL (h/t SB Nation’s RJ Ochoa).
Dallas will certainly be involved in a unique coaching search, but where the Cowboys actually land is a mystery at the moment.
The Cowboys differ from other open jobs because a quarterback is in place with Dak Prescott and they could easily make the playoffs next season with everyone healthy.
However, dealing with Jerry Jones is the unique aspect of the situation compared to other owners and it may take a certain type of coach to mesh well with the Dallas owner.

Mike McCarthy might not have to wait long for his next NFL head coaching job.
McCarthy is expected to interview with the Bears this week and the Saints also have interest in the now-former Cowboys head coach, per ESPN’s Adam Schefter and Todd Archer.
McCarthy should be near the top of the list of candidates for any of the open jobs because of his track record.
The former Green Bay and Dallas head coach won the Super Bowl with the Packers in 2010 and led the Cowboys to three 10-win seasons and two division titles in five years.
He has more experience than most of the current coordinators interviewing across the NFL.
The biggest decision facing teams like the Bears and Saints is whether to bring in someone of McCarthy’s experience, or to go with a fresh first-time head coach who could inject new enthusiasm into a franchise in need of that.

The current Broncos defensive coordinator comes with head-coaching experience from two years in Denver in 2017 and 2018.
Joseph had two losing seasons in Denver, but he does come with the experience advantage over other coaching candidates.
Joseph could have more interviews this hiring cycle, as Rapoport noted. He’s getting attention because of the job he did with Denver’s defense this season.
The 52-year-old is one of many coordinators who had strong 2024 seasons on the list to be interviewed.
He isn’t as flashy as Detroit’s Ben Johnson or Aaron Glenn, but Joseph would likely improve a team’s defense in year one and build a strong offensive staff around him.
