Hilary Duff Opens Home to Mandy Moore & Family Amid LA Fires
Hilary Duff is lending a hand to Mandy Moore and her family. Â
After the This Is Us starâs Altadena home burned down in the devastating Los Angeles fires, sheâalong with her husband Taylor Goldsmith and kids August âGusâ Harrison, 3, Oscar âOzzie” Bennet, 2, and Louise Everett, 3 monthsâfound refuge in Hilary and her husband Matthew Komaâs home.
âOur dear friends @matthewkoma and @hilaryduff thought it [was] wise to set up a gofundme for us to help with everything moving forward,â Taylorâs brother Griffin Goldsmithâwho is expecting a baby boy in just a few weeks with wife Kit Goldsmithâwrote in a Jan. 13 Instagram post. âNot to mention they are currently housing my brotherâs family.â
âTheyâve taken care of my entire family from the moment this began,â he gushed. âI will never be able to thank them adequately. This is the kindest act any human could do for another. They are the most beautiful, selfless people weâve ever known.â
And while Griffin expressed, âthere arenât words to describe how I feel,â the Walk to Remember actress struggled to process her own emotions following the tragic loss of their community.
âI love you, Altadena,â she wrote in the caption of a Jan. 8 Instagram post showing footage of local buildings on fire. âGrateful for my family and pets getting out last night before it was too late (and endless gratitude to friends for taking us in and bringing us clothes and blankets).â
âHonestly, Iâm in shock and feeling numb for all so many have lost, including my family,â she explained. âMy childrenâs school is gone. Our favorite restaurants, leveled. So many friends and loved ones have lost everything too.â
But with friends to help her through this difficult time, the 40-year-old spread a message of hope and positivity as the community looks toward the future.
âOur community is broken but we will be here to rebuild together,â Mandy noted. âSending love to all affected and on the front lines trying to get this under control.â
And for the Tangled star, part of looking toward the future involved doing what she could to help her familyâwhich included sharing a fundraiser to help Griffin and Kit get back on their feet ahead of welcoming their first baby. But when critics began to question whether or not she was providing them financial support herself, she did not hesitate to clap back.

âPeople questioning whether weâre helping out our own family or attributing some arbitrary amount of money google says someone has is NOT helpful or empathetic,â Mandy wrote in her Jan. 9 Instagram post. âOf course we are. Our buddy Matt started this go fund me and iâm sharing because people have asked how they can help them. We just lost most of our life in a fire too.â
âKindly F OFF,â she added, âno one is forcing you to do anything.â

“My heart so deeply aches,” she wrote on Instagram Jan. 14. “What I would give to hear the key slide in the front door one more time or the baby gate click behind me as I bring the laundry upstairs.”
“How blessed we were to raise our son in such an idyllic, magical place away from the hustle and bustle of LA,” Sarahâwho shares son James with husband Graham Outerbridgeâcontinued. “Our whole future ahead, planned in our little kitchen. Luckily we are all safe and if this has taught me nothing else, itâs to appreciate every last detail of your life.”
Her dad Eugene Levy’s home has also been reportedly destroyed by the fire.

And in between posting helpful resources, Jamie shared a tragic video of their entire neighborhood.
âDamn. Our entire neighborhood is gone,â she wrote Jan. 9. âWe are grateful to our brave firefighters and first responders and pray we donât lose any more lives to these catastrophic fires. Stay safe and stay vigilant.â

“Obviously, itâs kind of devastating. Itâs emotional,” the 69-year-old said. âYou live there for a long time, and you had all your stuff. I had my stuff there, and itâs all like, Iâve been relieved from the burden of my stuff, because itâs all in cinders.â
But when he returned home to discover that his home had been destroyed, he was relieved to find that, at least, his chickens survived, adding, âIt was amazing.â

“We were able to park and walk up our street to bear witness to all the loss,” she wrote on Instagram Jan. 9. “Miraculously, the main part of our house is still standing. For now. Itâs not livable but mostly intact.”
However, she noted that the home studio, garage and back house were destroyed in the Eaton Fire.
“Every house on our street is gone. My in laws. My brother and sister in law- 6 weeks from welcoming their first baby. Our best friends,” she added. “Feeling weird survivors guilt. We love this community and will do everything we can to help rebuild and support.”
