Former Ghana Football Association (GFA) president, Kwesi Nyantakyi, has accused the current administration, led by Kurt Okraku, of failing to foster unity within Ghana’s football community.

Kurt Okraku, who assumed office in 2019, has faced allegations of sidelining key figures in Ghanaian football.

The criticism intensified ahead of the 2023 GFA elections when George Afriyie, the sole challenger for the presidency, was controversially disqualified.

The Elections Committee’s decision sparked widespread criticism, with many suspecting Okraku’s influence behind the move.

Nyantakyi, who previously served as CAF’s 1st vice president and a FIFA Executive Council member, expressed disappointment in Okraku’s leadership.

According to Nyantakyi, he had advised Okraku to mend fences with those he might have wronged when he took office.

“After the elections in 2019, I called Kurt Okraku and advised him to unite the football family,” he told Asempa FM.

“I asked him to apologize to the people he has offended and unite everybody but from what is happening, I am not sure he did that,” he added.

Under Okraku’s tenure, the senior national team, the Black Stars, has struggled, including back-to-back group stage exits in the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON). For the first time in two decades, the team also failed to qualify for the 2025 AFCON.

Despite these setbacks, the Okraku administration has achieved significant milestones in women’s football. The Black Queens recently secured qualification for the Africa Women’s Cup of Nations, marking their first appearance since 2018.
