The Saints set for two more head coaching interviews on Friday

The New Orleans Saints started their coaching search as soon as the season ended. It seemed like this process would be drawn out but with the potential of many candidates interviewed throughout. After their last interview with Aaron Glenn on January 10th, the process slowed down a bit, and fewer interviews were being scheduled, even with candidates the Saints had an interest in. Today, per Jonathan Jones, the Saints are set to resume the head coach process and interview Joe Brady and Darren Rizzi.

Due to Joe Brady and the Buffalo Bills still competing in the playoffs, his interview will be virtual. He is one of the main candidates for the Saints head coach job, and depending on where other potential head coaches get hired to, Brady could easily become the top choice. Once a staff member in New Orleans, Brady has seen success and failure since that time. During his one year as a passing game coordinator/wide receivers coach at LSU, he revolutionized the offense and helped build one of the greatest college football offenses ever. Then, with the Panthers, Brady was fired after one season as the offensive coordinator. This is when the Buffalo Bills hired Brady, then at a later time, promoted him to offensive coordinator. The Bills offense improved drastically under Brady and Josh Allen has had the best year of his career.

The other candidate that is interviewing for the Saints head coach job today is Darren Rizzi and this will be held in person. Rizzi has been the Saints special teams coordinator since 2019 and was promoted to interim head coach this past season. During his time as interim, Rizzi showed leadership and was able to motivate the team. There were some highs, but the lows were very low for Rizzi’s interim coaching stint, and it hurt his odds of becoming the full time HC. Nevertheless, it was his first time coaching, and the Saints still have belief in his abilities.
