Even though the Super Bowl isnât for another week, the Philadelphia Eagles have already secured a big win with Lane Johnson vowing to return next season. Johnson told reporters on Saturday heâs âdefinitely not retiringâ after the Super Bowl whether they âwin or loseâ against the Kansas City Chiefs. There hasnât really been any chatter about Johnson hanging up his cleats after this season. He said during the preseason he physically feels like he could play until heâs 40, but a more realistic timeframe is two to three more years. Johnson will turn 35 on May 8 and will wrap up his 12th NFL season in Super Bowl 59, but thereâs been no noticeable decline in his performance. The Oklahoma alum was named to his fifth career and fourth consecutive All-Pro team this season.

The Eagles ruled four players QUESTIONABLE: Brandon Graham, Kenny Gainwell, Britain Covey, and C.J. Uzomah. It seems like these are the only players who are in potential jeopardy of missing the big game. And with nine days until February 9, thereâs still time for their outlooks to improve. Graham was limited for the second day in a row. He continues to sound optimistic about his chances of playing.
The Chiefsâ 3 biggest offensive questions against the Eagles – Arrowhead Pride
1) Will there be a changeup in the Eaglesâ primary coverages? In the Vic Fangio-style defense, the coverages you get are predictable. Fangio will play a zone-style defense on early downs, starting with two deep safeties and cornerbacks playing off coverage. Heâll rotate each safety interchangeably, but you know youâre always going to get zone coverage with the intention of keeping things underneath and generating long third downs. On third downs, Fangio will mix it up with more man coverage and five-man pressures, but even then, itâs never the most exotic pressure youâll see. What has always made this style of defense work is that Fangioâs gamble is that by conceding 3-4 yards per play, youâre eventually going to make a mistake. Whether itâs a lousy run play, an offensive lineman blowing protection, a drop, a misthrow or a miscommunication by the quarterback, one mistake against this style of defense sets you back into third and long, where the Eagles; talent takes over, and itâs hard to thrive. However, what I find interesting about this game is that it is the exact way the Chiefs want to play. This season for Kansas City has not been about their ability to generate explosive plays but methodically picking up five or six yards a play and keeping themselves in positive down-and-distances. If Fangio concedes that airspace and yards are important to the Chiefs, we will have an entire season of film to suggest that the Chiefs are comfortable playing that style. So, my question is this: does Fangio change his gameplan?

2. Philadelphia Eagles LB Zack Baun. The Eaglesâ linebacker is heading to free agency for the second straight year. Yet, expect Baun to get much more than a one-year, $3.5 million Philadelphia gave him to leave New Orleans a year ago. Baun had a breakout season out of nowhere as he had 151 tackles and was named first-team All-Pro and heâs a finalist for the NFL Defensive Player of the Year award. Teams will be lining up to pay him big, but heâs clearly a perfect fit for the Eagles and expect them to reward him for his incredible first season in Philadelphia.

The news came just hours after there were some reports that Moore might have second thoughts about the job because of the Saints quarterback situation. This report though, seems to put those rumors to rest. Moore has been an offensive coordinator for the Cowboys, Chargers and Eagles for the past six seasons. During that time, Moore has led four top-10 scoring offenses, including the No. 1 offense in 2021 with Dallas. With guys like Aaron Glenn, Joe Brady, Kliff Kingsbury and Mike McCarthy opting out of the job, Moore seems like the best option available for the Saints, and getting a third interview with him is a great step in the right direction.

1. The Eagles havenât recorded an interception in any of their four Super Bowls. Theyâve faced 130 passes â 81 from Tom Brady, 27 from Patrick Mahomes, 21 from Jim Plunkett, one from Danny Amendola â without a pick. QBs are 85-for-130 for 1,184 yards with 11 TDs, no INTs and a 122.7 passer rating against the Eagles. Every quarterback thatâs faced the Eagles in a Super Bowl has had a passer rating of at least 110. Teams without an interception in the Super Bowl are 9-32. The Eagles also didnât have an INT in the 1960 NFL Championship Game. Their last championship game INT came in 1949, when Frank Reagan picked off Bob Waterfield at the Eaglesâ 2-yard-line in the fourth quarter of the Eaglesâ 14-0 win over the Rams in the NFL Championship Game at L.A. Coliseum. Reagan played football at Northeast Catholic High School and Penn, then served as athletic director at Villanova after his NFL career. All that said, this is a different secondary, one of the best in Eagles history. Mahomes is one of the best ever, but I think that streak ends now.

Philadelphia is fortunate its team rebounded and is ready for revenge against Kansas City in New Orleans, but, looking at how things stood a year ago at this time, that was far from guaranteed. Itâs not just Philadelphia. Tom Brady went 10 years between winning rings. Aaron Rodgers won once at 27 and never returned to the ultimate NFL stage. At some point, perhaps as soon as next Sunday, Patrick Mahomes and Andy Reid will stop winning. Father Time is undefeated and maybe youâre left with a multi-decade Super Bowl appearance drought like the Birds once had. This is what you dream about as a fan, the glorious stories you concoct as a kid in the school yard or in barroom discussions with your friends. âWhat if the Eagles won the Super Bowl and they were just the best team in the history of this city?â Thatâs the legacy thatâs on the table. Theyâve gotten back to some of what they were doing with Goedert when they reached the Super Bowl a few years ago â giving him underneath, on-the-move targets (5.2-yard average depth of target in the postseason) where he can pick up yards after the catch (8.5 yards after the catch per reception in the postseason). Thereâs a higher likelihood that Philadelphia has to put the ball in the air more in this matchup than its season-long average, coming in as slight underdogs against a Chiefs offense that has consistently stacked strong postseason performances. And Goedert has the most favorable matchups among Eagles receivers against a Kansas City defense that has allowed more receiving yards to tight ends than any other unit in the NFL through the AFC Championship game (1,276). The lower-risk alt line here bumps up Goedertâs line by about 10 yards from where it currently sits (49.5), but Iâll be more aggressive and chase higher yardage totals at better odds, too. Goedert has gone over 90 yards only once this season (170 yards in Week 3 against the New Orleans Saints), but heâs been a larger part of the passing offense in the postseason and the Chiefs should push Philadelphia to be more aggressive through the air. I think thereâs a ceiling for Goedert to bet in this spot.

Hurts came out throwingâŠfirst two passes were quick, short throws to AJ, DGâŠthat seemed to get Hurts into a good rhythmâŠhit DG for 15 on 3rd & 7âŠhit AJ for gain of 31 on 4th & 5âŠ.clutch play and great throwâŠgot momentum back to the EaglesâŠhad DG open for a TD, but the ball was too highâŠscrambled in the red zone and made a terrific throw to DeVontaâŠhe couldnât make the catch, but drew a flagâŠhit AJ on a quick out for a TDâŠperfect throwâŠdid a great job on getting the ball to Goedert, whether short or intermediateâŠthose two have great chemistry.
