Watch: Eagles’ Cooper DeJean scores pick-six on his birthday
Talk about a birthday present. Facing 3rd-and-16 from his own 24-yard line, Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes gift wrapped a pass for Eagles rookie cornerback Cooper DeJean.
Philadelphia traded a pair of second-round picks to take DeJean 40th overall the 2024 NFL Draft. After missing a large part of training camp with a hamstring injury, some worried the former Iowa Hawkeye would fall behind.
Fortunately for the team, he did anything but. DeJean played in 16 of the team’s 17 regular season games, making 51 tackles (38 solo), with one forced fumble and three fumble recoveries.
He had nine solo tackles in three postseason games but Sunday’s pick-six marked his first NFL interception. Not bad for a kid that just turned 22.
DeJean’s score was Philadelphia’s third of the day and second touchdown against the two-time defending Super Bowl champions. It also gave the Eagles a 17-0 lead before teammate Zach Baun intercepted another Mahomes pass deep in Chiefs territory to help put the team up 24-0.
