Chelsea star encouraging club to sign Champions League defender

The Premier League returns on Friday night when Chelsea travel to the south coast to face Brighton and Hove Albion.

Enzo Maresca’s side exited the FA Cup after being beaten by the Seagulls at The Amex on Saturday night, and the Italian will be desperate to see his side avenge that result when they return to the south coast in the Premier League.

The Blues currently sit fourth in the top flight standings and victory against Brighton could go a long way towards securing a place in next season’s Champions League, especially with England set to benefit from a fifth qualification spot.

Midfielder Moises Caicedo is among a number of Chelsea stars likely to once again feature against his former club on Friday night.

The Ecuador international has been arguably the Bleus’ most important player so far this term, and it has now emerged that he is encouraging the club to sign one of his compatriots.

As per TBR Football, Caicedo is prompting Chelsea to move for Club Brugge defender Joel Ordonez.

Caicedo is urging Chelsea to sign one of his international teammates

The 20-year-old centre-back joined Club Brugge’s NXT academy in 2022 and progressed to the senior side the following year.

He has since played more than 60 times for his current side across all competitions, including 30 appearances this term.

It is claimed that Caicedo is adamant that Ordonez has the ability to become a top-class defender, and he is therefore pushing his current employers to sign the youngster.

Fellow Premier League sides Liverpool, Tottenham Hotspur, Brighton and Hove Albion, and West Ham United are all also said to be interested in the central defender.

The Ecuadorian defender is contracted to Belgian giants Club Brugge until June 2028, but it appears that he could be the subject of significant interest prior to then.
