Liverpool considering move for £40 million winger

Premier League leaders Liverpool will hope to return to winning ways when they host Wolves on Sunday afternoon.

The Reds were held to a 2-2 draw by rivals Everton in the last ever Merseyside derby at Goodison Park on Wednesday night, with Toffees captain James Tarkowski netting the equaliser deep into added time.

That result moved Arne Slot’s side seven points clear at the top of the Premier League table, but the Dutchman will have been frustrated that his side failed to extend their lead to nine points.

Off the pitch, it appears that the Merseyside giants are considering a move for a player that has also attracted interest from Arsenal.

According to CaughtOffside, Liverpool are considering a move for PSV Eindhoven winger Johan Bakayoko, 21.

The report claims that the Belgium international – who has previously rejected a move to Saudi Arabia – is intent on moving to England.

Bakayoko could be the subject of an offer from Liverpool this summer

The winger joined PSV’s youth setup from Belgian side Anderlecht in 2019 and he has made more than 110 appearances for his current side since forcing his way into the senior side in Eindhoven.

This season Bakayoko has been particularly impressive, netting ten times in 31 games for PSV.

It is claimed that the winger’s price tag will be in the region of £40-50 million, despite the fact that his current contract is set to expire in around 18 months.

As well as Liverpool and Arsenal, fellow Premier League side Newcastle United are said to have been keeping tabs on the Belgian’s current situation.

German giants Borussia Dortmund and RB Leipzig are also interested in the player, the report claims.

Liverpool boss Slot will be relatively familiar with the winger from his time at Dutch side Feyenoord, who he left to take charge at Anfield last summer.
