Does Captain America: Brave New World Have a Post-Credits Scene?

We’re back! By that, I mean: We’re back to hanging out in the theater long after the curtains close on a Marvel movie, wondering whether Kevin Feige dropped yet another obligatory post-credits scene into the proceedings.

The MCU’s 35th film, Captain America: Brave New World, debuts in theaters this weekend. The story properly cements Anthony Mackie’s Sam Wilson as the MCU’s new Captain America while introducing Harrison Ford to the superhero playground as the new president of the United States, Thaddeus Ross. Along the way, we meet villains played by Giancarlo Esposito and Tim Blake Nelson, as well as catch up with the always delightful Danny Ramirez as the MCU’s new Falcon, Joaquin Torres.

Without further ado, let’s get to the reason why you’re here: Does this particular MCU joint have a post-credits scene? Well, first of all, Brave New World actually does not have a mid-credits scene, which is unusual for a Marvel film. But it does feature a post-credits scene, so you’ll have to stick around until the very end to see it. The rest of this story contains spoilers for Captain America: Brave New World, so turn back now if you haven’t seen the film.

What Happens in Captain America: Brave New World’s Post-Credits Scene? In Brave New World’s post-credits scene, Wilson pays a visit to Samuel Sterns, the big-brained creepo who tormented Ross the entire movie. He’s imprisoned in the Raft, a maximum-security prison underneath the Atlantic Ocean, which is increasingly feeling like the MCU’s very own Arkham Asylum nowadays. Here’s what Sterns says to Wilson:

We share the same world. Don’t we? This world you would die to save—it’s coming. I’ve seen it in the probabilities. Seen it plain as day, all you heroes protecting this world. You think you’re the only ones? You think this is the only world? We’ll see what happens when you have to protect this place from the others.Well, the man has seen it in the probabilities, but we’ve seen it in the last chunk of Marvel storytelling. Films and shows such as Loki, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, and Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania have all dealt with (to grossly simplify it) the idea of multiple universes existing beyond the one we’ve come to know in most of the MCU canon. Marvel already confirmed that two new Avengers films are on the way: Avengers: Doomsday (2026) and Avengers: Secret Wars (2027). Both will see Robert Downey Jr. return to the action, playing a different role than Tony Stark—this time, he’ll embody the iconic villain Doctor Doom.

I won’t reveal the entire storyline here, but Marvel’s comic books see Earth’s Mightiest Heroes face a situation in which they have to battle rival worlds—the gist is that only one Earth can emerge intact at the end of it all. Sterns is clearly referencing this storyline when he mentions “the others.” For more on Marvel’s plans to adapt the Secret Wars storyline, we wrote a full breakdown of it here.

In the meantime, if you want to know how Cap himself feels about the next two Avengers efforts, check out our digital cover story featuring the actor. “What you don’t want is Infinity War and Endgame 2.0,” Mackie said. Speaking about Anthony and Joe Russo, who will direct both movies, he added, “The Russos, they’re so smart, and they have such a hold on this universe and the history and the comic books that I know they have an idea. I mean, they better have an idea. I don’t know how you put all those people onscreen together and make it work.”

Well, considering that the Russos directed the mammoth Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame, I have a feeling that they will indeed make it work. Until then, let’s hope that May’s Thunderbolts* takes the baton from Brave New World and keeps the momentum going.
