Henry Cejudo reveals damage done from eye poke that ended his fight against Song Yadong at UFC Seattle

Henry Cejudo faced criticism almost immediately after his fight against Song Yadong was stopped when he couldn’t continue following an eye poke in the third round at UFC Seattle.

The foul forced referee Jason Herzog to pause the action while giving Cejudo five minutes to recover with the ringside physician coming into the octagon to check him over as he tried to recover enough to restart the fight. Cejudo eventually gave the go ahead to continue but as soon as the round ended, he told his coaches rather emphatically “I cannot f*cking see.”

The fight was stopped moments later and Song was actually declared the winner by technical decision because three full rounds had expired, which led to the judges’ scorecards being tallied.

On Sunday, Cejudo posted an up close photo with the damage done to his eye along with a caption that said “diplopia, soft tissue damage, corneal abrasion.”

Cejudo added another caption saying “he wanted a way out” taking aim at detractors claiming he was using the eye poke as an excuse to stop the fight.

Diplopia is the term used for double-vision, which is what Cejudo claimed was causing him the biggest problem after the eye poke when he attempted to fight again.

Following the eye poke, Herzog opted not to penalize Song for the foul and he did not deduct a point. Based on the scorecards — 30-27, 29-28 and 29-28 all for Song — a point deduction would have actually led to a majority draw rather than a technical decision win for Song.

Cejudo skipped out on post-fight media because he had to go to a local Seattle hospital for medical treatment after the event ended.

While Cejudo immediately called for a rematch against Song due to the disappointing ending, UFC CEO Dana White effectively shot down that idea saying “I just don’t want to see it again.”

It was an unfortunate ending to the main event, especially with Song surging as the third round got underway but the eye poke ultimately ended the fight.
