Following Its Academy Awards Sweep, Here’s How to Watch ‘Anora’ at Home

The film, which won five awards, including Best Picture, is slated to land on Hulu on March 17 or can be rented online

Anora was the darling of the 97th Oscars, winning Best Picture and Best Actress for Mikey Madison, while Sean Baker picked up trophies for Best Director, Best Editing, and Original Screenplay. Anora‘s distributor, Neon, announced that the film will be streaming on Hulu on March 17. The film will also be released on Blu-ray and DVD, including a Criterion Collection release arriving on April 29.

Anyone looking to catch the film at home following its major wins at the Oscars who doesn’t want to wait until it arrives on Hulu can rent or buy it from VOD platforms such as Prime Video, Apple TV+, YouTube, and Fandango at Home. It’s available to rent for $5.99 on Prime Video.

The indie dramedy is about a sex worker who falls for the son of a Russian oligarch, and in their speeches, Baker and Madison thanked sex workers while Baker acknowledged the importance of cinemas, encouraging studios to prioritize theatrical releases.

True to Baker’s wishes, Neon didn’t rush to release Anora on Hulu, instead waiting two months between its theatrical and VOD release and five months between its theatrical release and streaming release.

The film stars Mikey Madison as Anora, or Ani, a stripper and sex worker who finds herself in a whirlwind romance with club patron Vanya. The pair elope to Las Vegas, but things quickly go awry when Vanya’s parents send out henchmen to get the marriage annulled.

The film blends drama with dark comedy and a surprising amount of slapstick. Anora‘s directing and casting were praised in the Rolling Stone review of the film, with David Fear writing “[Baker]’s aided and abetted by a cast that allows the movie to be breezy one second and heartbreaking and/or black-humorously rough the next… But what truly makes Anora a near-masterpiece of cockeyed humanism in addition to a cutting indictment on cash ruling everything around everybody is the young woman occupying this romp’s center square.”

As part of Anora distributor Neon’s deal with Hulu, the film will be available to watch on the Disney-owned streaming platform on March 17. If you don’t want to wait until after the Oscars, you can buy or rent the film on VOD platforms like Prime Video.
