Hearts of Oak demand fairness after Legon Stadium rejection
Hearts of Oak have expressed their disappointment and demand for “fairness” following the rejection of the Legon Stadium by the Club Licensing Board.
The facility has been deemed unfit to host football matches due to reasons including an uneven surface and security concerns expressed by the board ahead of the Ghana Premier League resumption.
The move was necessitated by the death of Asante Kotoko fan Francis Frimpong Pooley, who was stabbed in Week 19 of the league.
As a result, the FA looks to put stringent measures in place to avoid such incidents.
“If the Legon pitch isn’t good enough, how many pitches in Ghana have the features the UG Stadium offers?,” Communications Director of Hearts Opare Addo told Happy FM.
“Yet, we play matches across the country on fields with even fewer amenities.
“I don’t want to single out any venue out of respect, but if Legon doesn’t meet the standards, then there are GPL venues that don’t even meet half of what Legon has. Let’s embrace fairness.”
It is understood five other venues have been disqualified including the Baba Yara Stadium.
The Premier League is scheduled to resume on March 7.
