Aaron Rodgers predicted to land with desperate NFC franchise in free agency

The New York Giants have had issues at the quarterback position for years now.

The team finally ended the Daniel Jones experiment in 2024, but the results weren’t any better with Drew Lock and Tommy Devito. Now, with head coach Brian Daboll and general manager Joe Schoen hanging on for dear life, the team may get desperate for a solution this offseason.

Mike Jones of the Athletic recently identified one free agent each NFL team should sign. For the Giants, Jones picked Aaron Rodgers. The Jets put out a statement last month signaling their intent to move on from the veteran after two seasons.

Regarding Rodgers and the Giants, Jones offered the following:

It’s hard to say how appealing the Giants would be to Rodgers, because they seemingly have a ways to go before they are ready to contend. But the Giants certainly need a quarterback after ending the Daniel Jones experiment last season and swinging and missing at Matthew Stafford. Could Rodgers be the answer? A young receiver like Malik Nabers does make New York a little more attractive.

To say the Rodgers’ Jets tenure didn’t go as planned would be an understatement. The quarterback suffered a season-ending Achilles injury in his first game with the team in 2023 and the Jets struggled to a 5-12 record in 2024.

Rodgers ended the 2024 season with 3,897 yards, 28 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions. The quarterback looked like his old self at points, but struggled to elevate his offense as he did in his earlier years.

Still, the Giants would gladly welcome Rodgers’ 2024 production on their team in 2025. Lock threw for 1,071 yards with six touchdowns and five interceptions, while Jones threw for 2,070 yards with eight touchdowns and seven interceptions before being released.

Over the Cap projects the Giants to have around $46 million in cap space, so money won’t be an issue if the team wants Rodgers. The quarterback was set to finish out his three-year, $112.5 million contract in 2025, but it’s widely expected the Jets will cut the quarterback with a post-June 1 designation.

As Jones mentioned, Rodgers may be skeptical to join another rebuilding team, but the Giants have a couple of points in their favor. The Giants have one of the best young receivers in Malik Nabers, and Rodgers wouldn’t have to change home stadiums.
