Love Is Blind Deleted Scenes Are Making Fans ‘Doubt’ Joey’s Reasons for Going on the Show

Warning: Spoilers for Love Is Blind season eight, ahead.

Many fans were shocked when Monica said “I don’t” to marrying Joey at the end of Love Is Blind season eight. However, newly released deleted scenes are clearing some things up, while simultaneously raising more questions.

Monica and Joey were the first couple to get engaged in the pods and seemed to have an easy-going relationship throughout the experiment, though they hit a minor speed bump when Monica’s sister expressed doubts about choice. However, once she got to know Joey more and tentatively accepted the relationship, it seemed the couple was on a clear path to exchanging “I Do’s.”

Still, we heard Monica express doubt over Joey’s level of affection towards her throughout the season, which ultimately led to her final decision in episode 13. “It’s a little uncomfortable for me to really trust in his words, rather than seeing his emotions,” Monica confided in her wedding party ahead of the ceremony. “I’m holding back because I haven’t gotten one hundred percent from him.”

At the altar, she tearfully turned down the marriage, saying, “I just feel like we’re not quite there,” to which Joey agreed, pointing out in a confessional that Monica had not said “I love you” until the moment she ended their engagement.

“I think we both have a tremendous amount of love for each other, and that’s apparent,” Joey told her during the ceremony. “But I think there’s bigger things and bigger growth, and I agree. I don’t think I would be ready. I need to be one hundred percent. And to be completely one-hundred-percent honest, I’m also not one hundred percent at this time.”

While it seemed like the pair was just unable to commit to marriage at that time, fans are now wondering if Joey ever would have ever been willing to “yes” on Love Is Blind. In deleted scenes shared by Netflix on March 7, fans got to see Monica meet Joey’s friends—and one of their conversations is sparking a bit of discourse.

“We’re all kind of…I guess ‘amazed’ is the word because Joey has always had some trepidations about marriage, just because of his past,” his friend Stef told Monica while another friend nodded along.

Monica looked visibly shocked, telling the friend, “Oh, I didn’t know about this at all.”

The group of girls seemed to confirm Stef’s words. “It was always a big topic of conversation of, ‘where do you see yourself?’” Stef continued. “That’s the biggest commitment to him, too, so the fact that he met someone and is serious about it and serious about it is a big deal.”

Interestingly, Joey was had a similar conversation with his guy friends during the same outing. “You in the past have also been not interested in getting married at times and you’ve been vocal on that,” Joey’s friend Scott said in the deleted scene. “And so, going through this so fast all of a sudden… That seems odd.”

Joey said that his views on marriage had “changed,” but listed her dog and lack of employment as “obstacles” in their relationship, noting that he didn’t know how she “handles work stress.” You can watch the scenes here.

Some fans of the show are now wondering if he was on the show for the right reasons, while others were upset about his claim that she was “not working” while helping care for her grandparents with Alzheimer’s disease.

“Why did Joey even go on the show if he isn’t sure he wants to get married?” one fan asked on a Reddit post about the deleted scenes, while another responded, “To get famous, sadly.”

In another thread on the same post, a fan insisted that Love Is Blind should have aired the scene with Joeys friends. “Unpopular opinion but he had no intention to get married,” they wrote. “His friends saying he was kinda against marriage for a long time and was vocal about it is quite telling.”

They continued, “Him talking about stress when it comes to a job when she’s caring for her elderly grandparents with Alzheimer’s which is probably more stress than the regular workplace and what does workplace/stress have to do with a relationship.” This echoed a similar comments about Joey’s concerns.

One Reddit user reminded viewers that Joey “probably deals with good amount of stress” as a healthcare worker, but conceded the other point, writing, “But why [the fuck] go on LIB if he’s against marriage? I’m side eyeing him more and more.”

Another replied to that comment, writing, “Being against marriage and going on LIB does make me think he had no intention following through.”

Those weren’t the only critiques of Joey on the deleted scenes Reddit post. Yet another fan said the scenes made them “doubt Joey’s intentions,” while another thought he “10000% did this show ‘for the plot’” and because it would make “a cool story.”

Fans had many of the same critiques over on TikTok, where one post about the scenes had over 535,000 views and 30,000 likes. “Hmm this all seems like important info for the audience 🫣,” TikTok user Reality Ashley captioned the video before honing in on Monica’s reaction in a second post.

“The moment Monica realizes her time has been completely wasted😩,” Reality Ashley captioned a clip of Monica’s conversation with Joey’s friends.

“Not being interested in marriage but goes on love is blind 🚩,” one fan responded to the first post, receiving over 9,000 likes. “I’m so glad his friends called him out!”

As we can all see, reality TV rarely tells the whole story and one deleted scene doesn’t necessarily prove Joey went on the show for clout. Hopefully, we’ll get more insight from Joey and Monica at the reunion, which drops on Netflix at 9pm EST on March 9.
