Watch Teofimo Lopez slap Arnold Barboza Jr. during fiery faceoff as security intervenes
Teofimo Lopez may be the third fight on the featured card headed for Times Square on May 2 but he got main event attention after slapping opponent Arnold Barboza Jr. during a heated faceoff on Monday.
The always outspoken Lopez was vocal as usual going back and forth with Barboza during a pre-fight press conference but the real action happened after they came together for the staredown. Barboza got things started when he knocked off Lopez’s cowboy hat and that led to some pushing and shoving between the fighters.
Oscar De La Hoya did his best to keep the fighters separate but his best efforts weren’t enough.
Just before breaking apart, Lopez slapped Barboza as security rushed in to intervene to make sure an actual fight didn’t break out on stage. The jawing continued as security actually lifted Barboza to the other side of the stage while Lopez just kept shouting.
While that fight featured the most fireworks, Ryan Garcia also faced off with his opponent Rolly Romero, although it wasn’t nearly as dramatic. The same goes for Devin Haney and his upcoming opponent Jose Ramirez after they met on stage as part of the historic event on May 2.
The triple-header boxing event is set to take place in the middle of Times Square in New York City on May 2 with the card airing live on DAZN. If all goes well for Garcia and Haney, they are expected to clash in rematch after the result in their first fight was overturned after Garcia tested positive for a banned substance.
