Brett Favre’s QB Endorsement for Vikings Is an Eye Roll

That’s the formal endorsement from Hall of Famer Brett Favre, who quarterbacked the Vikings in 2009 and 2010. His former teammate, Rodgers, has a free-agent decision this week, presumably down to the New York Giants and Pittsburgh Steelers. But if the Vikings want Rodgers — no one knows if that smoke is real — Favre recommends the Twin Cities.

“By all means, sign with them. They got a really good football team. They’re loaded at pretty much every position. They made it to the playoffs last year. They got a tremendous fan base, much like the Packers. If you get the opportunity, that’s a good place to win. Of course, you gotta play the Packers then,” Favre told NFL.com this week about Rodgers and Minnesota.

Vikings 2024 QB1 Sam Darnold recently signed with the Seattle Seahawks, Daniel Jones bolted for the Indianapolis Colts, and Nick Mullens went to the Jacksonville Jaguars. That carousel spin resulted in further Rodgers-to-Vikings rumors. Rodgers is evidently a Plan B or C for Minnesota, according to some.

“Love-hate relationship at its best. That’s what makes it such a great rivalry,” Favre continued.

“I got to see it from both sides. It made me appreciate both sides even more. If he gets an opportunity, why not?”

Vikings fans would merely hope that Rodgers returned to 2021 form if the Favre recommendation came to fruition. Otherwise, the former Green Bay Packer is no longer the MVP version of himself.

In all likelihood, Rodgers will pick the Giants or Steelers, and that’ll be that. But the Vikings connection will remain alive, solely because Rodgers’ career so closely parallels Favre’s. It’s eerie. Packers-Jets-Vikings. All at the same stages of their respective careers.

If the Vikings don’t hop into bed with Rodgers — they probably won’t — these QB2 options remain available on the open market:
