With great influence comes even greater responsibility – Omane Boamah at IYES
The Minister for Defence, Dr Edward Omane Boamah, has underscored the importance of responsibility in leadership and influence, stating that those in positions of power must act with integrity and accountability.
Speaking at the International Youth Empowerment Summit (IYES) at the UPSA Auditorium on Thursday, March 13, he urged young people to embrace responsibility as they strive for leadership and success.
Dr Boamah emphasised that influence, whether in politics, business, or social activism, carries the weight of accountability.
“With great influence comes even greater responsibility. Leadership is not about personal gain but about service, sacrifice, and commitment to the greater good,” he told the gathering of young leaders and professionals.
He further encouraged the youth to pursue excellence and integrity in their respective fields, highlighting that true leadership is demonstrated through actions rather than words.
According to him, society thrives when individuals in positions of influence use their platforms to uplift others rather than for personal or political advantage.
The Defence Minister also stressed the importance of ethical decision-making, particularly in governance and national service.
He noted that leaders who fail to uphold their responsibilities risk losing the trust of the people they serve.
“The choices we make today determine the future we create. If we misuse power or neglect our duties, history will judge us,” he cautioned.
Dr Omane Boamah’s address resonated with the audience, many of whom expressed appreciation for his words of wisdom.
As the event concluded, he urged young people to remain steadfast in their pursuit of positive change, reminding them that responsibility is the foundation of lasting influence and meaningful leadership.
