Brielle Brown Releases Unforgettable New Single “Blessing”
Americana/folk singer-songwriter unveils her single, “Blessing,” the first track from her upcoming long-player, In Art & Soil the Same, set for release on June 27.
Co-written with producer Marc Swersky (Joe Cocker, Hilary Duff, Natalie Cole), “Blessing,” is about the part music plays in society and culture – a witness to the power of hope, art, and love.
Brown shares, “Art is a savior, and far from being a mere luxury, music is an essential part of human existence, something we cannot live without.”
The title of the album – In Art & Soil the Same – was borrowed from a line in a review of Brown’s award-winning 2021 EP, The Well.

Brown says, “This album is about us and the stories we tell, and retell over time, that shape our existence. It’s about the delicate closeness of grief and suffering, of the memories stored and storied in our bodies and land, and of quiet power. It was written with deep yearning to return to an embodied self in such a disembodied world. The album welcomes anyone and everyone who is searching for deeper meaning within our collective human experience. It is my offering, a container, and hopefully, a bridge to tell your own story.”
Most of the songs on the album were written during Brown’s 15-month fellowship with The Witness Institute which begins its meetings with a blessing. Founded by Rabbi Dr. Ariel Burger and Elisha Wiesel, the son of Nobel Peace laureate and Holocaust survivor, Elie Wiesel, the institute’s mission is to create a more compassionate and just world.
In Art & Soil the Same includes a version of Don Henley’s “The Heart of the Matter.” Another track, “Get Back to the Garden”, features The Carlile Family Band. Guest artists include Michelle Moore and Anthony Almonte from the E Street Band on vocals and percussion.
Other musicians on the album: Aaron Comes (Spin Doctors), Rob Clores (Joan Osbourne, The Black Crowes), Vin Landolfi (Demi Lovato, Tori Kelly). Produced by Marc Swersky, In Art & Soil the Same was recorded and engineered by Jack Daley (Lenny Kravitz, Beyonce, Sara Bareilles) and mixed by Seth Von Paulus (Smashing Pumpkins, Christina Aguilera, Linda Perry).
The album’s artwork was designed by Carinè Müller, of Billow Studio. Brown explains, “I met Carinè on our fellowship retreat and we quickly bonded over our shared work in art and memory keeping. The unending fern leaf on the cover image is representative of rebirth and resilience.”
“Blessing” opens on a bluesy guitar tinted with piquant, vibrating tones, followed by Brown’s sumptuously nuanced voice, at once evocative and emotionally revealing – a voice smoldering with rich, mocha espresso flavors. After a low-slung, darkly shimmering bridge, the tune builds, adding resonance and rhythmic pulses, while Brown’s vocals, silhouetted by radiant backing harmonies, take on passionate imminence, akin to an intense, intercessory prayer.
“But when the bluebird sings / You sing along / When the bluebird sings / You sing her song / And it sounds like / One for the generations.”
Sweet, hopeful, inspiring, and completely enchanting, with “Blessing,” Brielle Brown offers a secret treasure – an opulent charm of a song.
