Dylan Efron Reveals Why He Really Posed For Those Viral Thirst Traps | The Rundown
Like his brother Zac Efron, Dylan Efron could be the next star of Baywatch.
After all, the Traitors winner detailed saving two women from drowning during a trip to South Beach on April 5 as he was taking a walk to the shore.
“It was really random,” Dylan explained on the April 17 episode of Brooke and Connor Make a Podcast. “I’m looking out and there are just people screaming in the water. The currents were ripping.”
He recalled seeing five girls with “their hands up screaming,” adding, “I just looked around and there’s no lifeguard.”
The 33-year-old, along with his friends Brennan and fellow Traitors alum Sam AsghariâBritney Spears’ ex-husbandâsprang into action.Â
“There were two closest to us that already had a guy helping them in,” he said. “There were three out further, so I swam one in and swam back for another girl.”
“The last girl I swam in, I was just trying to calm her down and just saying, ‘Breath, breath,'” he continued. “She just wraps me in the biggest hug and doesn’t want to let go. We hugged for like a full minute. I’m like, ‘You’re safe, you’re good.'”
Although he simply walked away after the rescue, fans captured the tense moment, which was reported by gossip blog Deuxmoi. But while Dylan understands the weight of the rescue, he doesn’t see himself as a hero.Â
As he put it, “I feel like I did what most people would have done in that situation.”
Thankfully, Dylan has a lot of experience swimming in college, as he emphasized how strong the rip currents were that day. He explained, “From where we jumped in, we ended up like a football field length away.”
And this is not the first time Dylan has proved himself capable in the water. The reality star, who was always a fast runner, previously revealed he’s competed in several triathlons after teaching himself how to swim using YouTube videos.

“I stuck with it all the way through probably [age] 28, and I was ranked in the top 1 percent of my age group for Ironmans,” he told GQ in February. “So, I got good at swimming.”
Since then, being in the water has been a crucial way to recharge for Dylan.
“I’m big into fitness,” he explained to The Hollywood Reporter in March. “Since I was a kid, I was playing sports. That was my passion. I very much tie my mental health to my fitness. I cleared my schedule this morning so I could go swim.”
“I needed that,” he said. “I needed that sun and that time outside to just be in my head and swim some laps.”
