Lewis Hamilton, Leonardo DiCaprio’s vegan burger chain shutters recording $10 million in losses

Neat Burger, the restaurant chained backed by Lewis Hamilton and Leonardo DiCaprio, has closed its doors after just six years in business. The vegan eatery, which served “100 percent plant-based meals,” has been forced to shut after recording major losses, according to The Sun.

The business lost £7.9million (over $10million USD) back in 2022, up £3.2million from the previous year. At the time, the company closed several branches in London, along with their New York store. “We are concentrating our efforts on our best performing restaurants — we believe that sometimes taking a step back is necessary to make a bigger leap forward,” a statement from the company read.

By 2025, only two stores in the UK remained, both of which were shuttered this week, the UK newspaper reported. “We have no further comment at this time, other than to confirm that the business has taken the difficult decision to close its UK restaurants,” a Neat Burger spokesperson said. The business employed around 150 people, all of whom are expected to lose their jobs.

Hamilton has been vegan since 2017 and has pushed for “healthier” food options for consumers on several occasions. DiCaprio, on the other hand, follows a flexible vegetarian diet in an effort to decrease his carbon footprint. “I believe we need a healthier high street option that tastes amazing and offers something exciting to those who want to be meat-free every now and again,” Hamilton said during the burger chain’s launch in 2019.

It’s made for a tricky couple of weeks for the Ferrari driver, especially after finishing P7 at the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix, saying he needed “a brain transplant” in order to understand his new car. He struggled to hide his disappointment after his teammate, Charles Leclerc, finished on the podium, telling reporters, “There was not one second [I was comfortable during the race].”
