Djurgården vs Chelsea predictionsThis has been an up-and-down sort of season for Chelsea.
It began with turbulence after another whirlwind summer in which the club once again traded players like it was going out of fashion.
That sort of scattergun approach to recruitment did not bring much success in previous transfer windows under the ownership of Todd Boehly and his consortium, but Chelsea stuck to their guns and brought in 11 more players.
Optimism was in short supply before a ball had been kicked, but the Blues actually began the campaign pretty well under Enzo Maresca.
His team lost two of their first 17 Premier League games. When they headed to Everton in the middle of December, a win would have sent Chelsea top of the table.
Maresca showed a ruthless streak from the get-go. Rather than constantly chopping and changing his starting XI, he very quickly settled on a favoured side. Fringe players like Joao Felix and Christopher Nkunku had to make do with appearances in the Conference League.
Chelsea drew that game with Everton, missing the chance to climb into first place. It was the start of a downturn in form which sent them as low as seventh in the standings.
During this time the supporters grew increasingly critical of Maresca’s style of play, which was seen as overly robotic and systemised. Try as they might, Chelsea could not find a way to arrest their slide.
Until now, perhaps. It is still too early to say they have turned a corner, but back-to-back league wins have certainly lifted the mood at Stamford Bridge.
This could still be a successful season for the west Londoners. They are fifth in the Premier League right now; if they were to finish there, Chelsea would have achieved their principal objective of Champions League qualification.
They also have a chance to add a new trophy to the Stamford Bridge cabinet. Chelsea have been expected to win the Conference League ever since they qualified. This is patently not Europe’s elite competition, but no piece of silverware is to be sniffed at.
Victory on Thursday would be Chelsea’s third in succession. Whisper it, but the Blues might just have rediscovered their form at the perfect time.

Chelsea to win to nilIt is fair to say not many people predicted Djurgarden’s run to the semi-finals. Their journey began way back in the second qualifying round, while they took just one point from their first two games in the league phase.
The Swedish side ultimately finished fifth to qualify for the knockout phase, in which they have already eliminated Pafos and Rapid Vienna. Needless to say, this is a much tougher assignment.

Djurgarden are the weakest team left in the tournament and it is hard to look past a comfortable Chelsea win on Thursday.
It is true that Maresca’s men do not have the best away record in the league of late, but they have consistently performed well on their European travels.
Chelsea can keep a clean sheet on their way to a first-leg triumph.
⚽ Back Chelsea to win to nil at 6/5 with Betfred ⚽
Chelsea to score in both halvesChelsea fans have been willing Maresca to release the handbrake, but the manager seems to prioritise control above all else.
In the Conference League, however, Chelsea’s vastly superior talent has allowed them to score plenty of goals regardless of the manager’s style.
Chelsea scored 26 goals in six league phase matches, then seven more in four games in the knockout rounds.
Djurgarden will struggle to keep the opposition attack quiet in the first leg, despite their home advantage.

Pedro Neto to score any timeIt will be interesting to see what sort of team Maresca picks for this one.
In the league phase the Chelsea boss opted for an entirely second string, but he has mixed things up in the knockout stage and will probably do the same here.
Pedro Neto’s excellent recent form should see him keep his place in the line-up. He notched the winner against Fulham the weekend before last and was lively against Everton on Saturday.
Neto’s talent has never been in doubt, but he does need to improve his numbers. This is the best goalscoring season of the 25-year-old’s career, yet he has only made the net bulge six times.
Neto can make it seven against Djurgarden.
⚽ Tip Pedro Neto to score any time at 9/5 with Betfred ⚽
