
CDS Lt. Gen. William Agyapong promoted to Three-Star General
Lieutenant General William Agyapong has been elevated from a TwoâStar to a ThreeâStar General, effective 1 May 2025.
The promotion marks a significant milestone in Lt. Gen. Agyapongâs distinguished military career and positions him to lead the Ghana Armed Forces with enhanced authority and responsibility.
Defence Minister Dr Edward Omane Boamah presided over the decoration ceremony at 8:00âŻam this morning in his office at The Square, Ministry of Defence.
âI had the privilege of decorating Lt. Gen. Agyapong with his rank,â Dr Boamah posted on his Facebook page, emphasising the solemnity of the occasion and the Ministerâs personal role in the promotion.
Reflecting on the elevation, Dr Boamah expressed confidence in the new Chief of Defence Staffâs leadership.
âWe trust you to enhance the capabilities and operational efficiency of the Ghana Armed Forces,â he wrote, underscoring the governmentâs expectations that Lt. Gen. Agyapong will modernise training, improve readiness, and strengthen national defence.
The promotion comes at a time when the Ghana Armed Forces are undertaking extensive modernisation efforts and expanding regional security cooperation.
Observers note that Lt. Gen. Agyapongâs experience and strategic vision will be pivotal in navigating evolving security challenges both at home and abroad.
