Confirmed: Lille make final decision on Chuba Akpom
French Ligue 1 club Lille have confirmed that they will not be signing Nigerian striker Chuba Akpom permanently in the summer, Soccernet.ng reports.
Akpom joined Lille from Ajax in January in a loan deal till the end of this season. With Jonathan David expected to leave this summer, there have speculations that Akpom could just be the replacement.
The talks have even started to look possible, as Akpom’s minutes have increased in recent weeks. The Nigerian striker even scored against Reims in their final game of the season which they won 2-1 against Reims on Saturday.
However, shortly afterwards, Lille released a list of the players who will be leaving this summer, and Akpom was on the list.
Aside from Akpom, Lille also confirmed the exit of David, Angel Gomes, Remy Cabella, Mitchell Bakker, and Samuel Umtiti.
What is next for Chuba Akpom?
Chuba Akpom still has three years left on his contract at Ajax. He will have to return to the Dutch club this summer.
However, if they receive a good bid for him, they will likely let him leave, as Akpom does not seem to be happy at the club.
As of the time of this report, no club has shown interest in signing Akpom.
The 29-year-old forward is eligible to play for Nigeria’s Super Eagles, but he has never gotten a call-up.
