Claressa Shields Speaks On Romance With Papoose, Remy Ma, And The “Elephant In The Room”

Papoose claimed in the past that he’s tried to file for divorce from Remy “numerous times.”

Claressa Shields, the undisputed boxing champ, recently sat down with The Breakfast Club and got candid about her romantic relationship with Papoose — and his very public, impending divorce from Remy Ma.

When Charlamagne tha God brought up her saying that there’s “some things Pap needs to handle,” Shields didn’t flinch. “It’s the elephant in the room, I don’t have to say it … in his personal life,” she responded. “But that takes time and like I said, that’s not my place to speak on. It’ll get handled.”

When asked whether she’s holding back emotionally until the ink is dry on the divorce papers, she quickly responded, “No. No, because we are together all the time. We talk about so many different things… kids and family and stuff like that, but that still has to get taken care of.” She added, “I’m with him every day and when I’m not with him, we’re on the phone every day and we’re talking and we’re FaceTiming, and we love each other.”

Doubling down that she’s not naive to how it looks — but isn’t hiding from all of the noise either — she let it be known that she is “a secure woman” when it comes to Pap because “he’s proven” to be “truthful” since the beginning of their relationship.

“When somebody is just truthful with you from the beginning, there is no secrets. It’s just, hey, ‘this is what it is, and do you accept or do you not accept?’” she explained.

Claressa also spoke on how serious their connection is, even going back to the chaotic moment when Remy exposed their relationship online. “We fell asleep on the phone for three, four months of us first getting together… we talked from sun up to sundown,” she said before adding, “So you don’t think that one day you’re going to wake up to that [chaos], so that’s what threw me off.”

The Flint, MI-native was referring to December of last year when Remy shared private messages between Pap and Claressa online, letting it be known there was a rift in their marriage. In an Instagram post, Remy shared a text thread that showed Shields expressing frustration with Pap after he didn’t inform her he made it home safely. She reportedly wrote: “You are the one who is married! If you can’t at least sleep on the phone with me or be with me in person… it shouldn’t be a big deal to let me know you made it home safe.”

Remy captioning the thread: “Papoose dumb a** fell asleep on the phone with @claressashields [laughing emojis] Laying in my house he refuses to leave. This bi**h supposed to be a world champion boxer and her scary a** hung up as soon as she heard my voice [laughing emojis]. Now I’m telling everything! Oh, and babygirl, you’re not the only one [shrug emoji].”

Speaking to how she currently feels about the “Conceited” rapstress, Shields kept it classy. “I don’t have any ill will toward any women and I don’t have any ill will toward her,” she said. “She made her post and whatever and that was about it. Like I said, [the divorce] wasn’t for me, that’s why I just responded how I responded.”
