Red Sox need Roman Anthony decision after 497-foot grand slam

There’s nothing left for Roman Anthony to prove.

That was already true before Saturday night. The Boston Red Sox top prospect, the No. 1 prospect in all of baseball, has clearly been too good for Triple-A.

But if anyone was doubting that at all, the sweet-swinging lefty removed any uncertainty with one swing.

At the plate with the bases loaded, Anthony crushed a ball 497 feet. It left the bat at 115.6 miles per hour.

Grand slam, an emphatic proclamation that this is an MLB star toiling at Triple-A, with no reason good enough to keep Anthony down any longer.

Frankly, it shouldn’t matter anymore whether the Red Sox “have room” for Anthony.

He might be the best player in the entire Boston organization. He has to be in the majors.

They can figure things out around Anthony, but he’s not just the future. He should be the present.

And if this one mammoth home run followed months of struggle, that’d be different. But Anthony is clearly the best player in the minor leagues, and he belongs in a Boston Red Sox uniform, not a Worcester Red Sox uniform.

For Boston to reach its full potential as a team, Anthony needs to be in the lineup every day for the rest of the season. And he’s certainly ready.
