Johnny Walker vs. Zhang Mingyang headlines UFC Shanghai, Aljamain Sterling vs. Brian Ortega co-main event
Zhang Mingyang is getting that main event treatment.
On Wednesday night, UFC CEO Dana White announced that the promotion returns to Shanghai on Aug. 23 at the Shanghai Indoor Stadium, with a light heavyweight main event between Zhang and Johnny Walker.
āThe Mountain Tigerā made his UFC debut last year and has quickly amassed three first-round knockouts, earning Performance bonuses for each of them. Most recently, he stopped Anthony Smith in Smithās retirement fight at UFC Kansas City in April.
Walker is riding a two-fight losing streak, getting stopped in both his bouts in 2024. He was scheduled to fight Azamat Murzakanov at UFC 316, but withdrew from the bout due to injury.
In the co-main event, former bantamweight champion Aljamain Sterling will take on former two-time featherweight title challenger Brian Ortega in a featherweight bout. Sterling most recently lost a unanimous decision to Movsar Evloev at UFC 310, while Ortega dropped a unanimous decision to Diego Lopes at UFC 306.
