2025 NFL linebacker unit rankings: Eagles, Patriots carry elite units – PFF
1. Philadelphia Eagles: Philadelphia holds the top spot in these rankings with a stacked linebacker unit that only got better this offseason. They handed Zack Baun a well-deserved contract extension after he finished 2024 with a league-leading 90.2 PFF overall grade. Nakobe Dean wasn’t far behind, placing 11th among qualified linebackers (77.4). The team drafted insurance for Dean’s postseason injury in Alabama’s Jihaad Campbell, who was the 2025 class’ best linebacker. Youngsters Jeremiah Trotter Jr. and Smael Mondon Jr. also provide quality depth.

As much as the Eagles talked up Campbell’s potential as a pass rusher when they drafted him, the Eagles have had Campbell with the inside linebackers so far. Defensive coordinator Vic Fangio said the reason is that there’s more to learn at that spot. But it’s also very possible Fangio simply sees him as a linebacker. That wouldn’t be such a bad thing either. Campbell is 6-3, 244 pounds and seems to have a similar build and skillset as Zack Baun, who was an All-Pro linebacker under Fangio in 2024. Campbell certainly doesn’t mind that comp. “That type of guy being on the No. 1 defense in the nation, which is the Philadelphia Eagles,” Campbell said after getting drafted, “I got a chance to definitely watch some film and watch some tape on him and just see how special he is.” Campbell was recruited as a pass rusher by Alabama but eventually settled in as a stud linebacker. In 2024, he started 13 games at Alabama and had 117 tackles, 11 1/2 tackles for loss, 5 sacks, 2 forced fumbles, 3 pass breakups and an interception. He then went to the Combine and impressed with a 40-yard time of 4.52 seconds and a broad jump of 10-7.

Biggest question facing this team: Can the two different timelines the Rams are on meet for one glorious season? Matthew Stafford is 37, the 2nd oldest starting QB in the league unless Joe Flacco wins the job in Cleveland. Stafford was really good last year, keeping the Rams treading water early in the season when Puka Nacua and Cooper Kupp were out, then going 9-3 with a full strength roster. But he’s only got so many good years left, and at his age it is possible he doesn’t have any. Aging out can hit hard in the NFL, and if they need to the Rams can get out of his contract after this season. Even with a geezer at QB, the Rams had one of the youngest rosters in the league last year. In back to back seasons they have had two players receive top 3 rookie of the year votes: Jared Verse won Defensive Rookie of the Year in 2024, Puka Nacua finished 2nd for Offensive Rookie of the Year in 2023; and Kobie Turner in 2023 and Braden Fiske in 2024 were 3rd for DROY. That’s a good starting point for a core.

Hey, it’s tradition for champs to be showered in confetti. In Philly, they hurl beer cans, too. “I saw one of my friends from college. He said, ‘I can understand why you dropped it,’” Roseman reflected during a recent interview with USA TODAY Sports. “I didn’t drop anything, bro. And it was with enough velocity and force that it put me down. My family, they got scared s—less. I was like, ‘Get my trainers, let’s clean it up and keep going,’ and I’ll deal with it after.” A short time later, Roseman turned it into a message for fans during his speech at the championship rally. As he aptly put it, “I will bleed for this city!” The episode was not only classic Philly. It was also quite a metaphor for the resilience that Roseman has exhibited in climbing to the top of his profession.

3) NFC EAST. For a division that commands big-market attention annually, this feels right. There is a new hierarchy of main actors, however. In many previous years, Prescott would be the unquestioned top quarterback among the four. Instead, after missing nine games in 2024, he’s third among this group, according to the year-end QBI rankings, and is going to need a strong bounceback season to usurp the reigning Offensive Rookie of the Year (Daniels) and Super Bowl LIX MVP (Hurts). That’s how high the bar is in the NFC East, where Wilson’s Big Apple arrival will almost certainly be overshadowed, especially compared to the amount of attention his move to Denver in 2022 drew. More eyes will be focused on Daniels’ sophomore season and Hurts’ title defense. We’ll see if the latter QB bumps his ranking up, which would appease the many Eagles fans who likely spend their free time throwing darts at my headshot.

Eagles fans flocked to Sea Isle City to join Kelce at his fifth annual bartending charity event to raise funds for the Eagles Autism Foundation, and fans got quite a show.

A’ja Wilson, winner of the Best Athlete – Women’s Sports and Best WNBA Player awards in 2024, headlines both categories again. Saquon Barkley earned nods in three categories: Best Athlete – Men’s Sports, Best Play and Best NFL Player. Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen is the only other NFL player apart from Barkley named in both Best NFL Player and Best Athlete – Men’s Sports categories.

A fake quote attributed to Eagles’ Kendall Lamm caused him real trouble when it spread – PFT
As a relatively unknown offensive lineman, Kendall Lamm hasn’t been in many headlines during his 10-year NFL career. But now he’s the subject of plenty of unwanted attention, all because of a fabricated quote that some news outlets published without checking. Lamm signed with the Eagles in March after playing last season with the Dolphins, and when he left Miami he said he appreciated the opportunity the Dolphins gave him last year. And that’s all he said, but this week an obscure website full of false information about the NFL posted a quote of Lamm criticizing the Dolphins, attributing it to an interview Lamm gave to ESPN. Lamm gave no such interview.
