Bucks linked to nine-time All-Star after waiving Damian Lillard

The Milwaukee Bucks are expected to explore more backcourt help this summer, following two major offseason moves after the start of free agency.

The Bucks took a huge swing Tuesday, waiving superstar Damian Lillard to sign Myles Turner to a four-year, $107 million deal.

Lillard, who suffered a torn left Achilles tendon in the club’s first-round playoff loss to the Pacers, is set to find a new home after the Bucks waived him, stretching the remaining $113 million on his contract over the next five years.

As it stands, Kevin Porter Jr. is currently expected to serve as the team’s starting point guard. However, the club may not be done making moves, with The Athletic mentioning nine-time All-Star Russell Westbrook as a potential option.

While the 36-year-old reportedly wants to play closer to home in California, the chance to suit up for a playoff-caliber team could lead him to Milwaukee.

The veteran point guard previously played for the Clippers and Lakers, but he appears more likely to join the Kings than either of those teams. Sacramento is not expected to make significant waves in the star-studded Western Conference, which could be a drawback for Westbrook, who has yet to win an NBA championship during his Hall of Fame career.

The 2016-17 NBA MVP would fill a need for the Bucks and help facilitate an offense centered around Giannis Antetokounmpo.

Westbrook wasn’t the most consistent option for the Nuggets last season, though he proved he can still fill the stat sheet, and the Bucks could be desperate for cost-effective options at the point.

Over 75 regular-season appearances (36 starts) in Denver last year, Westbrook averaged 13.3 points, 6.1 assists, 4.9 rebounds and 1.4 steals across 27.9 minutes per game.
