Jared Goff reveals brutally honest reaction on trade from Rams to Lions
Detroit Lions quarterback Jared Goff revealed his thoughts on being traded to the Lions from the Los Angeles Rams in 2021.
During the first episode of the second season of the Netflix special “Quarterback,” Goff stated that he was shocked by the trade and also felt betrayed.
“Three weeks after the last game of the season, get a call from Sean [McVay] and really did not expect anything,” Goff said during the first episode of the second season of “Quarterback”. “He lets me know they’re trading me to Detroit, and I’m like, ‘Whoa, OK, all right. What the hell? What’s happening?’ I would say about 30 seconds after that phone call, it was on Twitter.”
“You feel like you’ve been betrayed, or like you’re not wanted,” Goff said. “And I think for me, ultimately it was the fact that there was not a conversation had, and there wasn’t like a, ‘Hey we’re thinking of moving on’ type of thing.’ There was nothing.”
Since arriving in Detroit in 2021, Goff has been one of the better quarterbacks in football and has helped the Lions completely turn around the franchise. Though it was rough at the start, Detroit has won the NFC North in two straight seasons and also appeared in the NFC Championship Game in 2023.
During the 2024 campaign, Goff posted career highs in passing touchdowns (37) and passer rating (111.8). He also led the Lions to a 15-2 record and the No.1 seed in the NFC.
Goff’s tenure with the Rams didn’t end well, as his play declined every year after the 2018 season, when he led Los Angeles to the Super Bowl. However, the former No.1 pick has revived his career in Detroit and has the team in a position to compete for titles in the immediate future.
