PS5, PS4 Retro Shooter Neon Inferno Really Doesn’t Need to Look This Awesome

Run ‘n’ gun

These new retro-themed releases don’t always need to go so darn hard, but we love it when they do.

Take the upcoming Neon Inferno, which is due out on 2nd October for both PS5 and PS4. It kinda reminds us of SNES classic Wild Guns, with your character on screen while you gun down larger-than-life bad guys.

Obviously this one is less Wild West and more Blade Runner, as the title takes places in NYC 2055, a city supposedly ā€œbeyond salvationā€.

Here’s the blurb from the game’s official website:

ā€œNeon Inferno is a hybrid side-scroller and gallery-shooter where the action takes place in both the foreground and the background. As warring factions battle for control of a dystopian New York City, you enter the fray as an assassin for the Family – a notorious crime syndicate determined to eliminate its rivals and dominate the metropolitan battlefield. Rendered in beautiful pixel art and backed by an evocative soundtrack, Neon Inferno delivers a stylish, modern 2D action experience with cyberpunk flair.ā€

There’s a cool mechanic in the trailer where one of the characters parries incoming enemy fire, and is able to re-route the direction of it, turning the tables quite definitively.

We reckon this looks great, and if you agree with us, then you can order a free poster from the game’s official website. You will need to cover shipping costs, but hey, that’s still pretty generous of the dev, eh?
