Heading for Old Trafford? Man United handed ‘major boost’ in Sesko pursuit
Manchester United are handed a huge boost in their pursuit of RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko, with Newcastle United allegedly pulling out of the race for the striker.
Manchester United have seemingly been handed a huge boost in their pursuit of RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko, with Newcastle United allegedly pulling out of the race for the striker.
Sesko’s future has been the subject of much speculation of late, with both Man United and Newcastle said to be keen to bring him to the Premier League during this summer’s transfer window.
However, according to the Daily Mail, Newcastle’s interest in the Slovenia international has all but ended.
The report claims that the Magpies are instead looking at Aston Villa’s Ollie Watkins and Wolverhampton Wanderers’ Jorgen Strand Larsen, while Brentford’s Yoane Wissa is also still on their radar.
Newcastle have allegedly turned down an opening bid, worth in the region of £120m, for Alexander Isak from Liverpool, meanwhile, as Eddie Howe’s side battle to keep hold of the Sweden international.
Newcastle ‘end interest’ in Leipzig striker SeskoMan United are yet to submit an official offer for Sesko, but it is understood that the 22-year-old is the club’s leading target in the final third of the field.
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano said earlier this week that Man United would make a bid for Sesko once the player had communicated his desire to make the move to the 20-time English champions.
Sesko has scored 39 times and registered eight assists in 87 appearances for Leipzig, including 21 goals and six assists in 45 appearances in all competitions during the 2025-26 campaign.
Newcastle have had an incredibly frustrating transfer window, and the Isak saga is far from ideal, with the Magpies likely to be put under more pressure by Liverpool in the coming weeks.
Will Man United sell Hojlund if Sesko arrives?Man United head coach Ruben Amorim offered no guarantees on Rasmus Hojlund’s future when questioned on the Denmark international after the clash with Bournemouth on Wednesday night.
Hojlund, who found the back of the net against Bournemouth, has said that he wants to stay at Old Trafford and fight for his spot, but it remains to be seen whether that will be the case.
Sesko is somewhat of a risk considering that he is not proven in the Premier League, and Hojlund’s form during pre-season could lead to the Red Devils keeping hold of their current number nine.
