Guitar Hero Veterans Set Up New Studio, Promise To ‘Deliver The Next Evolution In Rhythm Gaming’

New game to be announced later this year

Image: Guitar Hero 3: Legends of RockIt feels like the rhythm game genre has enjoyed somewhat of a resurgence in recent years, especially when you consider the likes of Fortnite Festival and the array of new guitar peripherals that have been getting released on Xbox and beyond – and now a new studio called RedOctane Games is ready to take advantage of that momentum.

The studio is being led by Simon Ebejer, who was the Production Director on multiple Guitar Hero games before later becoming Studio Head at Vicarious Visions and VP of Operations at Blizzard Entertainment, and he’s being joined by “creators and developers who helped create and scale Guitar Hero and DJ Hero nearly two decades ago”

Their plan is to “deliver the next evolution in rhythm gaming”, with a new game to be announced later this year.

“RedOctane Games is focused solely on advancing the rhythm game genre combining the past with the future and being driven forward hand in hand with this well-established and respected community of gamers. The team has been busy in pre-production over recent months and has now officially entered production on its debut rhythm-based title, which is expected to be announced later this year.”

It’s not just one game they’re working on either, as they’re said to be “developing a range of innovative rhythm-based experiences” at the moment, again with the idea of “building the future of rhythm gaming together with players”.

We’re clearly going to have to wait a bit longer to find out what’s next, but it certainly sounds like they’re working on something that’ll have close ties to Guitar Hero, which comes as a big relief considering we haven’t had any new Guitar Hero or Rock Band games since 2015!

Rock Band 4 is still great fun, by the way, and Fortnite Festival has its charm as well, but it’d be great to get something fresh that isn’t tied into an experience like Fortnite, so here’s hoping we’ll find out more about this new game very soon.
