Man United’s Baleba ‘truth’ revealed amid claims of ‘£96m agreement’ for Brighton star
Manchester United are allegedly not currently on the verge of signing Carlos Baleba from Brighton & Hove Albion despite a report from Cameroon.
Manchester United are allegedly not currently on the verge of signing Carlos Baleba from Brighton & Hove Albion despite a report from Cameroon on Thursday afternoon.
The Red Devils have been heavily linked with Baleba of late, viewing the Cameroon international as their leading target in the remainder of the summer transfer window.
CFOOT have claimed, via their X account, that an agreement has now been struck between Man United and Brighton to take the 21-year-old to Old Trafford in a deal worth in the region of £96m.
However, such suggestions are believed to be wide of the mark.
According to journalist Nathan Salt, Baleba is still a top target for Ruben Amorim’s side, but there is not currently an agreement in place between the two Premier League clubs over a transfer.
Baleba to Man United report deemed ‘not accurate’Brighton are in a strong position when it comes to Baleba’s future, with the midfielder having a contract at the Amex until the summer of 2028, and it is understood that they value him in excess of £100m.
Baleba has scored four times and registered two assists in 77 appearances for the Seagulls since making the move to the club from Lille in 2023, and he is expected to leave the Amex over the next 12 months.
Man United have already spent heavily on Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo and Benjamin Sesko this summer, but they are set to raise further funds by moving on the likes of Alejandro Garnacho, Antony, Jadon Sancho and Rasmus Hojlund.
It is clear that Red Devils head coach Amorim wants an energetic and powerful midfielder to slot into his starting side, and the Portuguese is believed to be pushing club chiefs to complete a deal for the Cameroonian star.
Man United are “bidding blind” for BalebaAccording to journalist Ben Jacobs, Man United are “bidding blind” for Baleba, with the club still unsure of Brighton’s exact asking price for the central midfielder.
“United are working on the player side, they feel they’ve got buy in. This is about dealing with Brighton. Talks have already started and will continue on the club-to-club side… United don’t have a price, and Brighton have a number internally. If you get within the ballpark of that number… they will sell, but you’re bidding blind,” Jacobs told The United Stand.
Liverpool and Manchester City are also believed to be admirers of Baleba, but neither are thought to be planning a move for him during this summer’s transfer window.
The midfielder is believed to be keen to make the move to Man United even without the Red Devils being in a position to offer European football of any kind during the 2025-26 campaign.
