Sony has shared that it’s raising the prices of the base PS5, base PS5 Digital Edition, and the PS5 Pro in the USA. Going into effect tomorrow, 21st August, the increased prices are as follows:
PS5$549.99 ($50 increase)PS5 Digital Edition$499.99 ($50 increase)PS5 Pro$749.99 ($50 increase)
Sony vice president Isabelle Tomatis said the following: “Similar to many global businesses, we continue to navigate a challenging economic environment. As a result, we’ve made the difficult decision to increase the recommended retail price for PlayStation 5 consoles in the U.S. starting on August 21.”
This is only the latest PS5 console price rise, as other territories such as the UK and Europe have seen the cost go up in recent months. Back in May, hardware manufacturer Sony said it was considering more PS5 system price increases. It has now followed through with one for the USA.
Sony CFO Lin Tao said it would be investigating a method of “passing on” tariffs, implemented by USA president Donald Trump, to the consumer. There was also the consideration of manufacturing PS5 consoles within the USA.
The prices of PS5 accessories aren’t affected in this business update. “We have no other price changes to announce for additional markets,” concluded Tomatis.
