Supertri Chicago 2025: Date, start time, how to watch live and who’s racing

The new Supertri season started in stunning style in Toronto.

Olympic champion Alex Yee showed the London Marathon hadn’t blunted any of his speed as he powered to a brilliant victory in the men’s race.

And in the women’s race, Jolien Vermeylen stunned Olympic champion Cassandre Beaugrand and the rest for a famous victory on her Supertri debut.

Last year in Chicago Hayden Wilde and Georgia Taylor-Brown were the impressive winners on an entertaining day – read on to find out what’s in store this Saturday.

Pro women – Who is racing in Supertri Chicago?

There’s no Cassandre Beaugrand for this one but Georgia Taylor-Brown, who beat her in a Crown Racing one-two in this race last year, does line up.

She said she feared elimination in the last race in Toronto before battling back for sixth and even in a season where she’s taking a relatively relaxed approach, she must rank as one of the favourites.

Jolien Vermeylen misses this one after her Toronto heroics but Jeanne Lehair is a two-time winner in this format (London in 2023 and Boston last year) and was top-five in Toronto.

Taylor Spivey is consistently a contender in Super League / Supertri while young Hungarian phenom Fanni Szalai adds further firepower and here are the line-ups in full:

Brownlee Racing: Isabella Hayes (17), Jess Fullagar (12), Bethany Cook (15), Fanni Szalai (18)

Crown Racing: Georgia Taylor-Brown (26), Emma Jeffcoat (24), Erika Ackerlund (21), Miriam Casillas García (23)

Podium Racing: Jeanne Lehair (31), Zuzana Michalickova (33), Gina Sereno (36), Desirae Ridenour (35)

Stars & Stripes: Taylor Spivey (43), Rosa Maria Tapia Vidal (44), Márta Kropkó (45), Maria Tomé (46)

Pro men – Who is racing in Supertri Chicago?

In the absence of Supertri stars like Yee, Wilde, Matt Hauser, Leo Bergere, Vasco Vilaca and others this looks a big chance for a relatively new name to make their mark.

Or could it be a brilliant comeback from triathlon legend Jonny Brownlee after a shocker in Toronto? He was an early elimination on what was a rare bad day at the office – “I think I made every mistake in the book” was his honest assessment afterwards.

Other relative veterans such as Tyler Mislawchuk and Kenji Nener will fancy their chances as will Ricardo Batista who was sixth at the Olympics and has been on an upward curve in the WTCS with a whole host of recent top 10s.

And this is another race where Stars & Stripes can really showcase some special emerging US talent.

This is how they will all line up:

Brownlee Racing: Jonathan Brownlee (11), Marcus Dey (13), Brandon Pye (15), Hamish Reilly (16)

Crown Racing: Tyler Mislawchuk (23), Ricardo Batista (21), Brayden Mercer (22), Morgan Pearson (25)

Podium Racing: Kenji Nener (33), John Reed (34), Tayler Reid (35), Alberto Gonzalez Garcia (32)

Stars & Stripes: Reese Vannerson (45), Mathis Beaulieu (41), Sullivan Middaugh (44), Márton Kropkó (46)

More on the supertri teams

The Supertri League features three rounds (Toronto, Chicago and Jersey) plus the Grand Final in Toulouse, with additional points on offer for the finale. There are both men’s and women’s individual categories, but athletes are not just competing for themselves, they are competing for their squad in the Teams League.

There are four teams fighting for the crown and the prize pool on offer, and for the 2025 season these are: Brownlee Racing, Crown Racing, Podium Racing and Stars and Stripes Racing.

Each team consists of four women and four men, and must contain an under-23 athlete in line with Supertri’s commitment to develop the future of triathlon.

The team managers are as follows:

Brownlee Racing – Tim Don
Crown Racing – Chris McCormack
Podium Racing – John Anthony
Stars & Stripes Racing – Parker Spencer

And with over $1million up for grabs in the prize fund this year – the majority again in the Teams League – there’s a huge amount at stake.

Chicago course and format

We’re back to the Enduro format in Chicago – and for the rest of the year.

That’s three back-to-back triathlons (all in swim-bike-run order), with no breaks in between.

Not everyone will make it to the finish though, because should an athlete fall more than 90 seconds behind the race leader at any point they will be eliminated.

Part of the famous Chicago Triathlon weekend, the downtown location has become synonymous with the sport.

So big crowds and impressive backdrops await the start and finish at Queens Landing and the bike and run, which take place on a narrow loop on the lakefront.

Each stage will consist of a 300m swim (one lap), a 4km cycle (four laps) and a 1.6km run (two laps).

Beginner’s guide to supertri

‘Normal’ rules do not apply in supertri and a small short cut, aka ‘Short Chute’, can be earned during the racing for being first across the line at various points.

You can earn a Short Chute in Chicago as follows:

the first athlete across the mount line after the swim on Stage 1

the first across the mount line after the bike on Stage 1 (i.e. after T2)

the first across the dismount line after the run on Stage 1

Short Chutes are won for a team and awarded to an athlete during the race by their team manager. Short Chutes are to be taken on the first lap of the run in Stage 3. No team can win more tha
