Tammy Slaton’s Cousin Katie Slaton Dead at 37

‘1000-Lb. Sisters’ Star Katie Slaton Dead After Cancer Battle

The Slaton family are mourning the loss of a loved one.

Katie Slaton—cousin to Amy Slaton and Tammy Slaton, the stars of 1000-Lb. Sisters—has died following a battle with stage 4 cancer, Amy and Tammy’s sister Amanda Halterman confirmed. Katie was 37.

“It is with a completely crushed heart and spirit that I have to post this,” Amanda wrote on Instagram August 26. “My little cousin went to sit at the feet of Jesus yesterday. She was a force to be reckoned with and showed love that was accepting and given freely. She was the life of the party and my best friend.”

Amanda continued, “I know both our grandparents and friends was there to welcome you home. Please pray for everyone whom loves her. Thank you all who has come out and supported her.”

An obituary posted online for Katie shared, “She enjoyed fishing, music, and hanging out with family and friends.”

She is survived, per the obituary, by her parents Jerry Slaton and Frances Slaton, her partner Natalie Bailie as well as children Landon, Liam and Lily, in addition to “a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, and uncles.”

Katie—who appeared alongside her cousins on the TLC series on multiple occasions—was diagnosed with stage 4 gastric adenocarcinoma, a rare form of stomach cancer, at the beginning of the year, according to People. 

In February, Katie’s partner Natalie shared an update to Facebook confirming Katie had started chemotherapy and that her “symptoms with her cancer seemed to improve.”

“Both our families have been so great throughout this whole process,” Natalie added. “We could not get through this without you! Thank you everyone for the thoughts and prayers! #Katiestrong.”

Amanda and her partner Leonard Moore also set up a GoFundMe for Katie around the time of her diagnosis where she shared a few updates on her cousin’s health.

“This isn’t just about money—it’s about showing love, care, and hope for someone who truly needs it right now,” Amanda wrote. “Katie’s GoFundMe account has been set up to help with medical expenses and provide some relief during this incredibly tough time. Even the smallest contributions or simply sharing her story can make a world of difference.”

She added, “Katie is a fighter, and with your help, we can make sure she feels the support and love she deserves.”
